Yes, I've joined the iPod generation. I dunno, maybe it was the thought of having my whole CD collection in my pocket that appealed. (yeah, I know, less quality than CDs etc. But isn't it great to be able to pick any album to listen to on the bus?)

I got a problem though. Remember Mondo Morricone and More Mondo Morricone. They got re-issued with Molto Mondo Morricone by the Royal Ear Force label. That's the edition I've got. I think there's copy protection on there because when I play these discs on older CD players, I get pops and clicks. I can't import them into iTunes to put on my iPod either.

Any iPod users out there with the Mondo Morricone discs?

Cheers

iTunes doesn't neccessarily give you less quality. If you set your encoding to AAC at 192kbps, the files sound quite good.

Also, if you're getting pops and clicks you might try using the "Use auto correction when reading Audio CDs" setting.

Both can be found under Advanced/Importing in your iTunes preferences.

P.S. I can't live without my iPod, I've got 2.3 days worth of film music on there!

Already done that. Before I did it, I'd say between 10% and 20% of the tracks I imported had pops, clicks or fuzz on them. With that setting, it's a lot less but I still get maybe 1% of the tracks I import with sound errors. Normally I just re-import and they're fine.

But in this case I don't think it's a case of there being electronic interference whilst importing, it's copy protection.

Cheers

I've had this problem with a couple of CDs before. What I did was to make copies of each CD (you may have to use an embedded player like Windows Media Player). The copied CDs, as I understand it, are stripped away of the copy protection. You should then be able to import the copied CDs through iTunes.

I'm not 100 percent sure but I believe the pops and clicks come from your computer not your downloading from itunes, my old computer gave me pops all the time on my cdr recordings, since I have gotten an new one , not a whimper.
All my cdrs sound perfect. The computer I have now is faster and has more memory on it, so I think it has something to do with it.

I hear you...had the same annoyance with (fortunately just) two albums, too. Is there a "Copy Controlled" logo on the CD cases?

I recently imported a "copy controlled" CD into iTunes and made the same experience. Probably iTunes has by now evolved to be able to import copy controlled CDs without pops and clicks.
