Way back during the middle of Jaws-mania in 1976 or 77, I remember being rather shocked when listening to a radio station in Mexico playing the Jaws theme, complete with some very disturbing screaming effects spread throughout (which was rather risque for the times). Does anyone else remember this or actually have it?

I'm not refering to the Lalo Schifrin Jazzy rendition (which also made it to the radio), although I now can't recall if the music was taken from the actual score or not.

I still have the 45.

While I have nothing to play it on, I won't be getting rid of it.

And is it from the original score, Joe?

OK, lemme bump this thread from 8 years ago big grin

I remember the "Theme From Jaws" being played on the radio, yep, way back when. I bought the 45 and the LP of course, and the radio single was just the first track from the album, the main title arranged in a suite. But the MCA 45 didn't have any screaming sound effects, just the track straight from the album.

Odd to think that back in those days, orchestral movie themes had mainstream radio play. Pop culture was different back then, radio was sure different. But Jaws was a cultural event, as was Star Wars, and both had significant radio play. The Jaws single was in the top 40 Billboard charts, hit # 32. Heck, Star Wars hit the top 10, Close Encounters was top 20.

I remember it very well, heard it on the radio a lot. But here's the time I remember.

This Colorado boy was visiting family in the Los Angeles area in the summer of '75. The day or two before we had just seen Jaws for the second time, and now we had come for a few days to a hotel on the Carpenteria beach. And if I remember right (and probably I don't, but it's my story), we turned on the radio and there it was, the Jaws theme playing. At the first summer beach I had ever been to. Dear god, talk about being afraid to go in the water!

I never had the 45 myself, but I will always remember buying the album at the concession stand when we first went to the movie. It sat under the seat throughout (thank heavens it was wrapped in plastic). That was the first and only time I ever found a movie soundtrack in a movie theater - that's how popular Jaws was back in the day. (I didn't know John Williams yet. I had bought the album because I was becoming a kid-collector, and because of hearing the theme on the radio.)
