Amazon.com has a listing for buying both films at a great price. But the BIG news is that for fans of these two films can rejoice in that they're finally being released on dvd. '1900' in a special collectors edition and 'The Conformist' in an extended Directors cut. I've always had a spot on my favorite 10 best films list for 'The Conformist', personally. In any event fans of these Bernardo Bertolucci films will certainly have an early Christmas!
1900 is a total mess. recomended only for those with a desire to see deNiro and depardieu's peckers.

I wouldn't want to sit through any film that's over 4 hours long just to see 'DeNiro and Depardieu's Peckers'. The film is certainly no masterpiece as is Bertoulucci's 'The Conformist', but it's certainly worthy of a better tagline than just catching it for a glimpse of a couple of peckers. Wow, I saw this film back in LA during it's weeklong Oscar qualifying run in Westwood in 1977 and if there is a scene in it of 'the two peckers', I don't recall it. However those peckers seem to have made some sort of lasting impression on you.
Being a former high school and college wrestler, I much prefer the nude wrestling scene between Oliver Reed and Alan Bates in the Ken Russell adaptation of WOMEN IN LOVE. Or, if you are fixated on the male anatomy, how about Harvy Keitel in Abel Ferrara's BAD LIETENANT?

I just saw the DVD of THE CONFORMIST last night. Beautiful film. Great photography by Vittorio Storaro (as usual).
Of particular interest is the score by Georges Delerue. Interestingly, the music for the love making scene on the train almost sounded like Morricone to me.
The 3 short documentaries on the making of the film with Bernardo Bertolucci and Storaro are also underscored with the Delerue music.
This made me go dig out that Japanese CD I have the score and give it a listen. Now I know why I never give it a spin. It has hardly any of Delerue's dramatic score on it. What a waste. The LP was originally on Cinevox and I know Paramount was the film distributor so I wonder if there is any chance we will ever see an expanded CD release. This score is really worthy of one!
Raro Video U.S. and Kino Video have confirmed that the upcoming Blu-ray release of Bernardo Bertolucci's Il conformista a.k.a. The Conformist (1970) will use the most recent Cineteca di Bologna restoration of the film.
The new restoration of The Conformist will be screened at Film Forum/New York (Friday, August 29 – Thursday, September 4).
The upcoming Blu-ray release of The Conformist is yet to receive an official U.S. release date.
