What a wonderful, beautiful score. Especially ANNA RETURNS is beautifully written. A magical score by the sadly underrated George Fenton, who gets way too less scoring assignments nowadays.I feel he comes right onto the style of Patrick Doyle´s scoring. Great score by a great composer.

I have seen just about every incarnation of this property, from ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM (1946), THE KING AND I (1956), the television series (caught a few eps in high school back in 1972) but not this one. It's a classic story, I'll have to check it out. I'm not familiar with this composer's work.

Yeah, a really beautiful score, quite dramatic too. I liked the hokey film too, but few others seemed to.

I'll have to check into it. I don't recall why I didn't see it at some point other than overfamiliarization with the story.

This is one of my favorite Fenton scores, maybe my favorite. Really good stuff.

It's a story that lends iteslf to a lush, exotic type score. That's why I'm intrigued by your recommendations. It'll have to go on the back burner for '07, though- I've spent a fortune on this stuff in the last 3 months.

This score should have won the Oscar back in 1999/2000.

Damnit, can't find my old thread on this soundtrack. Like the score, lush and delicate.

It's pretty good, though not among my favorites.
It does bring me some memories...

Well, it's the damn broken search engine's fault, not mine... smile

What happened with your 'scorechaser' nick, by the way?

After I thought about the scores that George Fenton has done (Everafter being my favorite), I immediately thought of this one too. However, when I look at certain sites listing his works, Anna and the King does not come up. Am I missing something here? Why is that? I could very well be missing some factual info.

Always loved this score and although I found the vocal rendition of the main theme acceptable , I never thought it really did stand up to the beautiful theme.

C'mon, give us their names - they need to be brought to justice...!

Picked up a copy of this CD in a charity shop a few days ago for pennies. Nice score, quite romantic and dramatic, with a mix of western and eastern themes. I also like the song. I've never seen the film however. It can stand next to the one other Fenton CD I own, 'Shadowlands'. Anyone any further impressions?

No, I just have to echo what I said the last time thread was active -- a lush and gorgeous score that is one of my favourites (maybe my alltime favourite) of Fenton.

I had this back when it came out on cassette tape and thought it was boring as hell. Now don't strangle me, that was a long time ago! Tastes sometimes change. Today I love beautiful lush romantic scores so I'll have to seek this out again.
