Dan: I read the review of "Beneath the 12 Mile Reef" at http://www.soundtrack.net," TARGET=_blank>www.soundtrack.net, and I must correct a statement that was made there-in: quote: I want to reiterate here that the simple fact that this was a CinemaScope underwater film in 1953 (before the invention of scuba gear) is truly astounding.
Scuba gear (The Auqualung) was invented in 1943 by Jacques Cousteau. A full 10 years before "....Reef" was made. Just an observation. http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/smile.gif">NP:LIKE LOVE...Andre' Previn...FANTASTIC!!! ------------------ http://209.15.122.1/enigmaron/pageR/rons2.gif"> [This message has been edited by Ron Sharon (edited 01 March 2001).]

Whoops!!Thanks for the factual correction about the invention of SCUBA. I was mistaken in thinking that it wasn't until the mid-1950s..... (I should have done just a wee bit more fact checking!) But even though SCUBA was around, I think the technical difficulties of filming a color Cinemascope film underwater were still amazingly difficult. (Have you seen the size of those things?? huge!) DAN ON *PEARL HARBOR*: "The score (as heard in the film) suffers from repetitive-stress syndrome. By the time the second hour rolled around, anytime something 'dramatic' appeared on screen, the music would come flowing forth---it got to be quite annoying after a while."Dammit, Dan. Has it ever occurred to you that your idea of "repetitive-stress syndrome" is Zimmer's idea of Zimmer Heaven? Zimmy Angel how I wuv him And I know that someday he'll wuv me And together we will see how swell Hans Heaven will be.

Luscious Lazio wrote: "Dammit, Dan. Has it ever occurred to you that your idea of "repetitive-stress syndrome" is Zimmer's idea of Zimmer Heaven?"Yeah, it occured to me. But it's still my review, and my opinion, and that's what I think about it, take it or leave it. But I make no apologies for my opinion (and neither should you!) DAN ON *POLLOCK*: "In a recent film music discussion with a friend of mine, he stated: 'Everyone's Americana sounds like Copland.'"I luv it when people gleefully plagiarize Copland. Whether it's Randy Newman (when he's not busy imitating Stephen Foster) or Stephen Warbeck (when he's not busy boring me to tears in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE). By the way, Leonard Slatkin finally did justice to Copland's SYMPHONY #3. The first movement happens to be the single greatest piece of music ever written.

Luscious,Do you even READ the reviews? I didn't write the review of POLLOCK, so take it up with the reviewer - NOT ME. <sigh> Dan ------------------ Dan Goldwasser SoundtrackNet http://www.soundtrack.net" TARGET=_blank>http://www.soundtrack.net [This message has been edited by dgoldwas (edited 29 May 2001).]
