With the February Image DVD release of the Woolner Bros. redub version of HERCULES AND THE CAPTIVE WOMEN, I am reminded how good the Gordon Zahler selections of mostly Salter library cues are (Salter according to library music expert Paul Mandell, some occasional Herman Stein in there too). Much of this music also appeared in FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS (the US dub version, not the original East German release). Does anyone have any idea if this Salter library is available on CD or LP? Maybe some of the Medallion releases from Tony Thomas?

I have the cue sheets somewhere and have seen the film a number of times. I don't believe there is Herman Stein music in there. People were always hearing Salter's music from CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON and assuming it was Stein's music. While it was based on Stein's themes, the music in a lot of these Zahler-related films is Salter's, and there's also music from Walter Greene, Leith Stevens, and a few others. These were illegal uses of music tracks owned by studios. Herman had an opportunity to join the group whose music was being re-used in this way, but he chose not to do it. He figured with his luck he'd get caught! Plus, he was a really honest guy who had enough trouble getting a good night's sleep as it was. The fear of being caught would have made sleep an IMPOSSIBILITY!
