Yes, very much, especially as the remainder of the 90s saw a plethora of intimate "people" movies and period films -- the type of stuff he was best at. Imagine Rob Roy or First Knight or Good Will Hunting with Delerue scores.
Sorry but I can't imagine the scores for Rob Roy or First Knight being better if Delerue scored them. I think Burwell and Goldsmith nailed their respective assignments. And I think Danny Elfman gave the filmmakers exactly what they wanted too...it's not like he can't do a straightforward gorgeous-as-Delerue orchestral score...look no further than Black Beauty.
But yes, I wish Delerue had lived longer and lent his beautiful compositions to more deserving films.
