Clint Eastwood and Lalo Schifrin certainly had a thing going - Lalo ended up doing a film for Eastwood as director (SUDDEN IMPACT), but before that: THE BEGUILED, COOGAN'S BLUFF, DIRTY HARRY, MAGNUM FORCE, JOE KIDD and KELLY'S HEROES. (There was another Dirty Harry film in the late 80s as well that Schifrin did some music on, I think.) Eastwood's had a long association with Lennie Niehaus. And don't forget Clint Eastwood's association with Jerry Fielding: "The Outlaw Josey Wales", "The Enforcer", "The Gauntlet", "Escape from Alcatraz".

I think that that association is more because of Blake Edwards rather than JA. Similarly Johnny Depp ~ Danny Elfman (perhaps Tim Burton is involved in the "equation") Not sure what that means, really. I suppose that arguement could be made for any of the collaborations. The fact still remains that JA was the female star of those 7 films, and Johnny Depp was the male star of his films. Generally, the star doesn't select the composer.

Found a guy who could outdo Volante, Ugo Tognazzi, of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES fame. Okay, so maybe I'm misunderstanding the intent of this thread... But has there ever been an actor, perhaps on the A-List who has said "I'll only work with composer "so-and-so" on my films"? Sean Connery who did not want James Horner to score Never Say Never Again is probably the only one that I can remember.

If you want to call it acting, Gary Stockdale has been scoring series and TV specials for Penn & Teller since at least 1990. That's about twenuty years so far.

The reason some composers score some actors is simply because some directors have their favourite actors and their favourite composers, and even more so in the old studio system where everyone was under contract. So it has no meaning. More significant would be if a certain composer gave a certain actor a particularly effective trademake or adopted a certain idiosyncratic style. Miklos Rozsa did at least EIGHT Stewart Granger flicks, for no other reason that they both worked for MGM. Actually NINE if you count the trailer music for 'King Solomon's Mines'. What? Is that true? From my website: http://rejectedfilmscores.150m.com/supposedlyrejected.html NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN -- ?????. In the book The Complete James Bond Movie Encyclopedia, which I do not have and am only using an excert from, the producer (Jack Schwartzman) was not happy with Legrand's score, and brought in another composer. The excerpt does not name who, but says he had wanted James Horner, but Sean Connery vetoed that idea (coincidently just two years later Horner scored a film Connery starred in).
