Just picked up this very resonably priced 3CD set from ebay and so far Nighthawks has been the only one I have listened to properly. And it rocks! Anyone else discovered this funky little prog gem?

Yeah, the first disc is great! Nighthawks is the highlight, but Best Revenge has some nice stuff as well.

The horror stuff on disc 2 was fun, The Church has some great tracks. The Japanese film scores on the 3rd disc haven't left an impression on me.

Sweet price on this set.

I just purchased the Nighthawks portion from iTunes and it's great. The Main Titles are a blast although the trumpets falter on that high passage. I think Emerson had an orchestrator but the range of the trumpets is a little high. Perhaps piccolo trumpet would have worked better but considering the jazz element in that piece, perhaps not.

Still a bloody great listen!

NIGHTHAWKS is a smashing little score for a rather good film (IMO)

Emerson himself was selling CDs of this a few years back on his website (around 2001/2) and I managed to snap one up before they either sold out or he stopped/was stopped from selling them. (I seem to recall he may have had a few legal problems).

I bought the AT THE MOVIES set but to be honest nothing in that collection really appealed to me in the same way that NIGHTHAWKS did. I suppose it's that mix of orchestra and rock and jazz (and some disco) that makes it an enjoyable listen. No doubt people would say that it has a dated sound but that doesn't really detract from its listenability. And it worked well in the film too.

I have an unabashed love for Nighthawks - both the film and the score.

How can you not love a film starring Sylvester Stallone, Rutger Hauer, Billy Dee Williams, Lindsay Wagner, and... the immortal Joe Spinell! cool

And Persis Khambatta's in there as well - with hair!

The only familiarity I have with the score is the short suite on Silva's old compilation of Stallone themes. I really should pick the Emerson box up; I have the Cinevox release of INFERNO already and that's pretty mental.

Haven't seen NIGHTHAWKS in years. I'll see if there's a DVD.

I bought the box for the Nighthawks tracks. Actually I bought it for the helicopter sequence music, and only a small section in that too.
I put in on my MP3 player to play at work and found it a long haul to listen to the entire box in one go. There are many tracks I don't care for but there were several that caught my attention. I noticed that several scores really got me listening whilst others went past me unnoticed.
That way I have discovered several cues I like even more than the Nighthawks track I bought it for.
Godzilla is the best of the whole box. Triumphant and gung ho. A pure adrenaline rush.
Then there are several cues of an Italian film (don't know the title I play them on my computer and there are no titles given in my mediaplayer just numbers).

I was very hesitant first on liking this set, not being sure that is was the original music but once I found out that it is, I am really very pleased that I bought this box.

I like Emerson's compositions very much.

Kind regards.

JEEZ.

I can't stand NIGHTHAWKS or the Japanese stuff.

I love Emerson when he is being Emerson - playing
piano or organ and writing in a mainly acoustic style.

Love INFERNO et al.

As a dedicated prog rock fan, I've always wanted to check out Emerson's film work - NIGHTHAWKS included - but I never got around to it. Judging from the ELP material, however, it is no question he knows his way around different musicial idioms.

NIGHTHAWKS is generic 70's cop show funk.
Not ELP at all!

Here's an item on Emerson from 1983
It contains the music that I really like, and that is in the CD box collection too.

I don't know the title of the track he plays at t=1:20 minutes but it has been used on many occasions.

Kind regards.

That's his take on Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man". Thanks for the clip. Interesting.

I'm not sure who released this Emerson set before, but "Keith Emerson at the Movies" is being made available again, by Esoteric Recordings through Cherry Red Records priced at £17.99

I'd LOVE a c&c of "Nighthawks"!
Selling points like "newly remastered" & "limited edition" have lost a lot of the power of persuasion over me. Seems every new release is...

I always liked Emerson's music for Nighthawks and thought the film itself was very underrated.

It's been a while since I saw the film - is there much music that hasn't been represented on the disc then?
