I had recorded all the music off a VHS from this years ago and recently found it. Pretty interesting, somewhat dramatic music offerings by Goldsmith. Some use of electronics and can tell it came pretty close to the time of MEPHISTO WALTZ. A lot of electronic "farting" sounds pop up throughout some really sound like his ALIEN NATION stuff. His wife Carol contributed lyrics to a song called "Our last night", music by Jerry. Some pre-echos and stylings of later scores like THE OMEN and CONTRACT ON CHERRY STREET. There's a little Italian Ethnic flavoring but not much and what is there is quite nice. Some real nice dramatic high-string writing. The film contains about 39 minutes worth of score and would make a cool CD.

The vocal on the song sounds like it was done by the same gal who sang the vocal version of the BABE Theme.

That electronic farting did get a little overused though I think.

The film is dated 1973 so this was when Goldsmith had done PAPILLON, ONE LITTLE INDIAN and his emmy winning score for THE RED PONY.

Anyone else hear this score?

I remember the score from having watched the picture. I loved the electronic pulse for the opening credits.

I know director Richard Fleischer himself expressed a strong dislike for this picture. Personally, I enjoyed this jump of old-school Hollywood craftsmanship on the Godfather bandwagon.

There's always been an interesting juxtaposition with Jerry when you see what other music he was writing at the same time as one of his better, more well-known works.

For example, he was writing ST:TMP at around the same time as "Players." Anyone remember that little turkey of a movie?

As does your use of the word "farting".
Eat too many beans for lunch, hmmmm?

Yeah - I was really disappointed by that "V-Ger" payoff... smile

Recently got the DVD of this at BIG LOTS! for $3.00

The Goldsmith score is really kind of fun.

Wonder what the chances of a Score CD of this being released are?

As I said in my first post above there's about 39 minutes of music in the movie and a song written by Carol Goldsmith as well.

Any thoughts on this score?

LOL!

Yeah! A space probe merges with a supercomputer and between the two of them nobody thinks of wiping the schmutz off of "VOYAGER"!

On a side-note, we coincidentally just got a nice release of "Players" as well. Did you realize that when you bumped this old thread, Zoob?

I've never heard anything about a release of this score being looked into by any label. Unreleased Goldsmith that aren't expansions are getting pretty rare. Have the tape's availability or ownership rights ever been established? We all know that Shamus, Peter Proud and Damnation Alley would require a time machine to save, but what's the deal with this one?

Nor have I, but it's inconceivable that it hasn't been. Meaning I'm sure somebody's pursued it, and I hope still pursuing it.

Been listening to this clip a lot lately. Neat music. Would be a damn shame if the score was lost.

Very familiar street setting used on many TV shows.

I want to hear more, but I think I'm in. smile

Think I'll pick up the DVD. It's anamorphic, cheap, and you had me at Richard Fleischer, Sid Haig, Al Lettieri, and Abe Vigoda.

That sample from above, starting around 33 seconds in, what makes that sound? Is that a instrument, electronic?
