So I'm sitting here and listening to this (CD-R transfer of the) old MGM LP. This is really cool stuff. Right now, it's the hilarious "Golden Trip" cue, which obviously underscores some acid trip-type scene (I don't know, I've never seen the movie). In general, I love the combination of Spanish/mambo-type sentiments and more or less progressive jazz.

Anyone else have this?

I do, Thor.

Not at the top of my LS list, but it has its good parts. I have an LP; no idea if it's made it to CD or not.

I don't think it has, no. Deserves it, though.

Was the LP a re-record?

It certainly sounds like it, but I can't say for sure. vinylscrubber, you can probably confirm(?).

If it is a re-record, it's pretty damn close to the original.

The album was a triumph of the score over some fairly bizarre sequencing, especially just ending the whole thing after a couple of signature Schifrin action cues edited together with a trowel. They probably had no choice, as they had
tacked the actual end title onto the beginning section of the main title and a version of the love theme, which dissolves in with a much more prominent dose of background hiss. (That latter situation drove me nuts when I did my own cleanup, but clean living prevailed again.)

I still hope that Lukas and compadres will do it up right someday--maybe mated to THE VENETIAN AFFAIR?

One of my original Schifrin purchases of so long ago. I still love the 'Adagietto' track.

For those interested and in North America.....

Sol Madrid is getting a very rare showing on TCM on March 31st, 2015 at 3:15pm (ET)

Widescreen.

A rare chance to hear Schifrin's score within the film.

Is this a sign that it could be out on an MGM on demand DVD?

Thanks for the heads-up...I will set the DVR for it. Love the soundtrack, and would like to hear it in context.

Watched the movie tonight...and it's pretty damn dull, sad to say. Lalo's music is the definite highlight.

Also just finished watching this. Schifrin's score does elevate this really pedestrian and tired film. I was surprised how good the print quality was, and the colors didn't seem faded. But a good cast is wasted here. David McCallum is miscast as the hero. Only Telly Savalas is fun as the bad guy. And director Brian Hutton would go on to make Where Eagles Dare and Kelly's Heroes. There's a reason Sol Madrid has been buried for so many years. At least FSM had the good sense to release the soundtrack.

Apparently so. The Warner Archive Collection released SOL MADRID as a made-on-demand DVD on May 5, 2015.
