I must have been the only one to attend this concert last night. The concert was a great one, where Williams conducted his standard:

-The Cowboys Overture
-Excepts from Close Encounters of the Third Kind
-Suite from Harry Potter (Hedwig's Theme, Nimbus 2000, Harry's Wondrous World)
-Adventures on Earth from E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
-Theme from Schindler's List
-Suite from Star Wars (Imperial March, Leia's Theme and the Main Title) (yes, the main title last!)

He also conducted a medley piece he arranged called "Monsters, Beauties and Heroes" that went along with a film of Monsters, Beauties and Heroes, including some other composers music (which I am trying to research to find the unknown music to me, I think one of the pieces was Korngold's Robin Hood) plus his own Jaws and Superman.

The most interesting part was right after the intermission. Williams showed and walked us through the opening of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, starting right at where young Indiana has stolen the Cross of Coranoto (sp) from the cave and the chase on horse back to the circus train, alligators, snakes and rhino, without music, dialog or sound effects. He then replayed the film segment while conducting the symphony. At times they were off to the film, but I think a lot of the people in the audience were finally made aware of what all goes into film music composition.

When the concert concluded, Williams received a standing ovation, to where he conducted Memoirs of a Geisha and his Olympic Theme (also shown to a movie of the athletes). After he left the stage to another standing ovation, only to come out a total of 3 times, before conducting
the Raiders March. He then left the stage to reappear 4 more times, finally putting his hands to the side of his face as to lay down and go to sleep. The audience then started to leave, they got the hint!

The performance was great, but you could tell the trumpet section was getting tired with some goofs in all three encore piece!

Another thing we noticed, is John Williams is looking older, or was not feeling good. He used the railing on the conductors stand
quite a lot, even getting up and down off the platform. He also said that it was great to be here in Columbus where he had never been,
and to conduct an orchestra he had never conducted. Well, I went to a concert in the Spring of 1993, at the Ohio Theater, with the Columbus Symphony, conducted by John Williams!!! I know he performs worldwide, but the Ohio Theater in downtown Columbus, Ohio, is not a place one would forget!!!

Well, this has been long enough. I had been checking the message board for anyone else that was going to attend, but never saw anyone, so I figured I would give you the run down to a great concert!! This was also the first major concert I was able to take my wife and 4 kids to, to let them actually see why I enjoy film scores! I think they came away with a different view!!! They are wanting to borrow my CDS!!!!!
I have now seen John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith conduct 2 concerts each, and I will always have that!!

Be great to hear if anoyone else was there?

Mike, I wish I could have made it to this one (as I missed the Tanglewood concert last month frown ) Oh well.

Glad you had a good time, and that your kids are "seeing the light!"

Thanks for the report. Seems like he did a few of his standard things (showing the train sequence from LAST CRUSADE with and without music, using the "sleeping sign" to signal his departure etc.). Can't believe I know these things when I've never even seen him in concert.

Sorry to hear that he may not have been feeling well. Although he's "only" in his mid 70's, his workload is certainly suited for someone at least 10 years younger. I just pray to God that he will visit Europe for a concert at least ONCE more before the "inevitable" so that I may see one of my biggest musical heroes live. He doesn't have to come to Norway. I'll fly to Spain or England or wherever.

Thank God I've been lucky to see him in concert a good few times! I hope you get your wish Thor, I'll see you there when you do!
I can't imagine life without John Williams, he brought me into this world (no, he's not my mum wink
He'll always be my No1 composer. When he meets his maker, God will have to make room for a new kid on the block!

I, too, was there.
Where were you seated at? I noticed a couple with about four kids. Maybe we were seated close and didn't even know it.

That's the same program from the San Diego concert in February, and from what I remember he has often used the conductor "railing" even in his Boston Pops years while conducting some parts.

We were actually seated the third row from the back center left side as you look at the stage, on the ground floor. There were alot of couples with kids. I hope the younger generation can appreciate what they heard!!! There is no one still alive that can match Williams!!!

We were seated on the right side of the stage, "FL-1, Row N seats 22, 24."

Ireally enjoyed the concert. Especially since it was the only JW concert I have ever been to. I was very excited that he did Excerpts from CE3K.

Do you have any pictures of the outside of the Ohio Theater? I was not able to get many pictures of Columbus. Beautiful city.

We drove from Mount Vernon, Illinois. About 400 miles. Well worth it, though!
