I just saw this 1985 film, didn't find it too good to be honest. I was curious to hear the score by Sylvester Levay. The film didn't feature any songs so the score was really an important part of the film. Very nice theme(s) in a classical, melodic vein (performed on synths of course), but I would have wanted more variation. Creator is possibly one of the "nicest" Levay scores - no sequencers and electric guitars, mostly love themes all the way through.

A pity that the score is unreleased, it would have made a perfect 30 minute Varese CD at the time of the release...

Maybe something for LaLaLand??

Opinions on the score?

No idea on the score, no memory of it at all, but i DO recall a delicious shower scene with Virginia Madsen.

I'd rather have an album of Probe or Hardball. It'd be like having a sequel to Three O Clock High. Everything he did around Cobra was good stuff, obviously influenced heavily by Tangerine Dream at the time...but good stuff. I soon forgot about Levay after that era....and his orchestral work is an insomnia cure to be sure.

I haven't heard a second of Hardball or Probe.

And let's face it, he didn't do *that* much orchestral work. Invitation To Hell (1984) and Airwolf (mid 80s) features a little bit of it, Courage Mountain (1989) is almost all orchestra, and not good, agreed. Navy Seals (1990) is synth/orchestra combination, the same is Hot Shots! from 1991. I find both of those scores very good.

Here are some samples from the pilot.

He's got some Larry Fast and Patrick Moraz goin on in there too...but overall, some nice TD nods....and Cobra-esque cues. There are loads of Probe episodes on youtube if you want to hear more. The Hardball music was far better since it was action oriented instead of science oriented...but even youtube doesn't have any clips. Think Three O Clock High with a bit more aggression.

I recently saw CREATOR, and here's another vote for a score release. The film was originally produced by Kings Road Productions, but the company currently doesn't list the film among its holdings. That could mean that it is controlled by its distributor, Universal. However, the only DVD release of the film comes from Lions Gate, so who knows.
