OK, OK, so I cheated a little here. I thought you might be interested in some soundtrack trivia. “Hot Blood” was the original Columbia film title for the cult Marlon Brando film, “The Wild One” in 1953. The IMDB calls it the “working title” but it seems clear that until the very last minute it was to be released as “Hot Blood.” Indeed, RCA, apparently relying on that first title released a now much sought after 7” 45 rpm EP (Extended Play) record (RCA EPA-535) with the cover photo emblazoned with the “Hot Blood” title over a picture of Brando and his motorcycle gang. (See top picture below) Four jazz tracks by composer, Leith Stevens, are played by Shorty Rogers and His Orchestra. References in the title notes and on the record use that title as well. For whatever reason the “Hot Blood” title was dropped- too racy for the times, perhaps – and the title became “The Wild One.” RCA then reissued the exact EP except with the changed “Wild One” title. As was common in the mid fifties, the soundtrack “Jazz Themes from The Wild One”, by the Leith Stevens Allstars, was issued in 1954 in two versions- a double 7” EP album (See bottom right picture)(Decca ED 633) and on a single 10” Lp with the same cover graphics (Decca DL-5515). Two years later in 1956, the popularity of the 10” Lp had faded and Decca reissued the album on a 12” LP with a large Brando photo. (See bottom left picture). As previously noted in Recordman post #69, the Stevens jazz soundtrack was later coupled with Stevens’ soundtrack to “Private Hell 36” and issued on Spanish CD Fresh Sound Records FSR2201 ) and the Brando cover version ( a different picture though) from Germany on Bear Family BCD 16393 AR . Does anyone know for sure whether or not the film actually saw a short release titled as “Hot Blood”? Anyone see it with that title?

I've never seen HOT BLOOD but I'll never forget the trailer. First Shot: Jane Russell doing her gypsy dance. Second shot: CU of Cornel Wilde flaring his nostrils at her. Over these two shots, the written, emblazoned text: "JANE RUSSELL SHAKES HER TAMBOURINES!" "AND DRIVES CORNEL WILDE!"
