I wondered if the music + effects tracks exists for LAND OF THE PHAROAHS or the other major unreleased WB 50s epic - HELEN OF TROY?. Why? Because both films on dvd are in stereo . I love the two cd set for PHAROAHS (and still hold out faint hope for HELEN OF TROY) - but wondered if the original M+E tracks for either one could be used for a stereo release. The other WB epic THE SILVER CHALICE on FSM cd set does have some tracks from the M+E tracks mainly in mono. I know the tracks to HELEN OF TROY exist, though probably in mono. (I care about the sound quality less than I do about the music itself.) But no one seems to be interested in releasing them. One, pervasive, view is that, since everyone seems to already have them, no producer wants to chance it. So, instead, they keep releasing other previously released scores, again and again, expecting us to snap them up. (POLTERGEIST II, anyone?) And we do. So, why is everyone afraid of doing a legit HELEN OF TROY? Go figure....

.....So, why is everyone afraid of doing a legit HELEN OF TROY?..... I know lots of guys who would do Helen of Troy (particularly right in her hometown of Troy, New York), but Paris is always in the way. Like Rick Blaine, they say, "We'll always have Paris." HELEN OF TROY has such an awesome score that it elevates the film to a near classic , especially compared to TROY which I liked but was very different in its approach. The music of Max Steiner is absolutely a master work by a master composer. John , I cannot believe that an old boot of HOT is preventing its release -- all the other epics have had boots including PHAROAHS, CHALICE, SPARTACUS, etc. and yet have had official releases. If THE MIRACLE can happen, I still believe that HELEN OF TROY may rise like Venus from the sea.
