Just playing this now (it was lying in wait when I got home from work).
It's a whopper!
If you like John Williams in his light, fantasy '80s mode, with a dash of Ben Hur thrown in, this is the score for you. Great, robust playing from the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, some comedy cues to lighten the tone and IT'S ALL ORCHESTRAL!!! 50 minutes too!
This one's just gonna get better with repeat plays.

Fantastic score indeed. Although some impressive pieces are missing on the CD and absence of bells included in the film's version of main titles is really annoying.

It's like a temp track aping score, mostly just cloning John Williams' music, with little bits of Rózsa (which I actually like quite a bit). But where is Frédéric Talgorn's own voice in this bombast?

BTW, I found the songs on the CD dreadful.

"But where is Frédéric Talgorn's own voice in this bombast?"

To be honest Chris, that's a good question. I think Talgorn's own voice is very much like John Williams, although he doesn't really steal themes or melodies, just the whole JW sound/style. I've always liked Talgorn's music because of it's close affinity the JW, but without those Debney/McNeely knock-offs.
It's like he studied what goes into Williams' plotting of scores and ran with it.
If Spielberg wants his future films to retain a similar musical sound (when the unthinkable happens), I reckon he should hire Mr Talgorn to compose his scores for him.

That is indeed one of Talgorn's knacks. He can write in Williams overblown symphonic style. I admit that I'm tired of hearing this kind of sound. Talgorn also knows his Barry ("RRRrrrr!!!") or he can compose noirishly Rózsa-like ("The Temp") or he mixes Barry with Herrmann ("Anthony Zimmer"). Here and there you can hear elements in various of his compositions that remind you of a more individual style, certain Talgornish sounds in the brass section or other things he seems to like. It's just a pity that he just seems to be asked to imitate others more often than rather being himself, and original.

Film music fans always describe the techniques composers use as though they were borrowed from other people, rather than describing the techniques themselves.

Can I hear an Amen.

Well, after one month, I finally got my copy of this score from MUSIC-WOW. Not sure I'll be ordering from them again. Took forever, and the case was crushed. That's what I get for trying to save a few bucks. Fortunately the CD was in perfect condition.

Another winner for Talgorn in my book. It might not have the subtle beauty of Die Story Von Monty Spinnerrats, or the over-the-top hubris of the main suite in Delta Force 2, but this is an epic sounding score that is a blast to listen to. I felt I was at the Olympics of old while it was playing.

I wonder if the film is any good?

I picked this score up in Bristol yesterday for a mere £1, in one of those increasingly rare "actual real life in the flesh music store" type places.

What I've heard of it so far is very good indeed. A definite throwback to the 80's fantasy style of John Williams, in a positive non-derivative way.....

I also picked up "World Trade Center", "Star Wars:The Clone Wars", "The Last Emperor", and "The Cotton Club".

All the above for the grand total of £11!

Well done Adam. It's always cool to find a real CD shop to browse and find good things in.
Not a bad haul for 11 quid.
I only find this kind of thing happening in the likes of Spain, Portugal, Germany and some Scandinavian countries these days. The UK CD shops are dwindling for sure frown
