I've seen that MPI-MSW crossover almost as many times as I've watched the classic-to-me MPI- Simon & Simon crossover. Magnum should have crossed over with THE EQUALIZER, but that wasn't a ratings hit like MSW.

I don't think S&S got much airplay over in The Land of Tim McGarry. Have we already touched on this?

Anyway, back in the early '80s, Magnum and the Simon brothers were a Thursday-night staple here in the US. Both were ratings giants, although the Simons have been largely forgotten, though Sinon star Gerald McRaney has had a prolific career after the show's end in 1989.

I believe you are correct. I have no memory of Simon & Simon at all. If it was shown here, it was shown on late night ITV.

As regards the crossover episode, I much prefer that Magnum/S&S episode to the Magnum/MSW one. However, they also filmed a second ending for the S&S one as well! And the story continued in an S&S episode. I have seen neither that, nor the second ending. They weren't on the DVD boxset either. Sigh.

I'm up to 'Missing Melody' where TC's daughter is kidnapped. Where did he suddenly get a family from? Strange to reveal that in the seventh season! It was a good episode, though. 24 to go...

Just watched the gumshoe episode. At the end Magnum realises he's in black and white!

Dear God, Frank Sinatra just showed up.

Into season 8 now. I gather that Magnum's 'death' episode at the end of Season 7 was meant to be the end of the series, but a public outcry brought it back.

Arthur English was probably only known by PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) viewers, and thus little-watched, though AYBS aired endlessly on PBS.

I always remember Arthur English from Follyfoot, a tv series from the early 70s.

So has anyone watched the remake of Magnum? It's been commissioned for a second season I gather. How does it compare?

It has none of the charm and great character interplay or stories of the original. Selleck was literally a larger-then-life lead that really carried the show. I also miss the by-play between Magnum and Higgins.

See the anouncement for it from time to time. It's packed together with the "Lethal Weapon" TV series.
Those 20 seconds are more than enough to know that I never want to see any of it. It is absolutely terrible.
The new Magnum is a cocky smug little pisser and absolutely not what the original was about. If the new Magnum were to appear in the original series, he'd be the annoying git that would get his comeuppance at the end of the episode, and the Selleck Magnum would be serving it to him. Even the original Higgins would agree with Thomas on that occasion.
New Magnum, a perfect example of what's wrong with this decade/ century.

Oh dear. I must confess to hoping it would be cancelled so that Tom Selleck can come back and do a series of TV movies instead.
