Wow, does this mean that Spooks is done?

After that last season finale?

Man, I hope not...

Be careful about Spoilers, guys. We folks in the US still have yet to see series 5.

Re: Spin-off, sounds really cool.

I've seen it and I'm here in the US.

Don't worry, though. I wouldn't dare spoil a thing.

I will say that you will be riveted right from the first episode of Series 5.

Did you get the DVD set of series 5 or is it being shown somewhere? BBCAmerica claims "new episodes," but they're series 3, Tom Quinn's final episodes.

I don't think Series 5 is on DVD there yet.

I was able to watch the episodes from a friend who lives in the UK.

I'm waiting for the price to drop a bit.

BBC America f**ked up big time when they took the series off after series 2. It was quickly replaced with the dire Ultimate Force, which itself, disappeared before series 1 was finished. Now that Spooks is back on BBCA, hopefully they will give it a longer run. Somehow, I doubt that will happen.

Looks like there was some kind of factory recall on these Season 5 sets here in the US?

I've been buying my Spooks sets from the UK. I think I have all 5 series, now that I think about it. It's series 6 that is not on disc yet.

I'm having a good enough time with the series that I don't mind buying it on DVD to watch it. In fact, the DVD's are full 60 minute episodes, while the episodes have been edited to 45 minutes on American TV.

But the sets do need to be cheaper. $60 for 10 episodes is STEEP.

All the BBC stuff that A&E has put out has been expensive... If you keep an eagle out on eBay, sometimes you can get them for a more reasonable price.

I was able to find ROBIN HOOD for around $35-40 on eBay last year.

I think these are a little cheaper in the UK and the packaging is a little cooler, which is why I chose to buy those.

Man, I love this frickin' show... I may cry like a baby if and when it goes away.

I agree. I didn't catch it until nearly it started it's third season, then went back to the DVD sets. I nearly fell out of my chair during the second or third episode of S1 - you know the one, where Tom Quinn and the woman go undercover and then get caught...

And then Fi during S4 - I did bawl over that one.

This series covers the same turf as 24, but is much more mature, has better writing, and is more real.

Agreed...

I can't think of another show like it where the writers have the stones to kill off their main characters like this.

That early episode, where Tom and the blonde go undercover and get caught... Oh, man... I don't want to give anything away to anybody but it will color the way you see French Fries for the rest of your life!

And watching Tom slowly unravel over the second season... Few shows would have taken the time to show this gradual erosion in a man's faith in himself and the work he does for a living but this is where British shows excel, I think...

And the testament to how good this show has been over time is that when it's time to say goodbye to one of these characters, you really feel it in your gut.

I remember when they got rid of Tom Quinn and then Zoe and Danny... and especially seeing Tom leave... I never thought Adam Carter would be a good replacement... but they've gone places with this character that are just astonishing and I don't think we've seen anything like it in American television. And I haven't even mentioned the anchor of the show, Peter Firth, who gets much better work in the UK than he usually gets on our shores. This show would never be the same without Harry Pierce.

24 is the best comparison to this show and I think they made a very strong effort with series 6 to compete with 24. Without giving too much away, there is one long story that plays out over the 10 episodes instead of fewer self contained eps. The finale of series 5 is a pretty good glimpse of where they go in the next series. They hit the ground running and they don't stop.

As you probably know by now, BBC America have pulled MI-5. Thet have no plans to continue the series. I for one, don't watch the channel anymore.
Here's some info about the spin-off series,Spooks Code 9.

Contender Home Entertainment have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of [Spooks] Code 9 on 8th September 2008 priced at £24.99. The new BBC Three drama from the producers behind Spooks and Life on Mars comes to DVD the day after the last episode airs.

6 episodes are spread across 2 discs. There are no announced extras.

Synopsis: The year is 2013. London has been evacuated following a nuclear bomb and the country’s power base has shifted north. In the wake of the attack, MI5 must completely restructure and establish field offices across the UK, working to gather intelligence from the very heart of local communities. They need young, new officers on the ground, and fast. Luckily, Britain’s youth is more than up to the challenge and is fighting back from the attack with a new sense of patriotism, combined with the hedonism that comes from being face to face with their own mortality. It is members of this new generation of patriots who help make up MI5’s new Field Office 19.

Led by experienced spook Hannah (Joanne Froggatt, Life On Mars) the rookie team is made up of Charlie (Liam Boyle, Drop Dead Gorgeous) a mathematician and genius problem solver, Rachel (Ruta Gedmintas, The Tudors) an ex-police officer with ambitions to be a leader, and Jez (Heshima Thompson, Prime Suspect: The Final Act) a new breed of spook altogether – a former criminal gone straight. Vik (Christopher Simpson, Brick Lane) chose MI5 over a career in his family’s business, whilst Rob (Andrew Knott, The History Boys) was a junior doctor at the time of the bomb and Kylie (Georgia Moffett, Doctor Who) a psychology student, just back from her gap year.

I actually did not know that SPOOKS had been pulled but I got really nervous recently when I heard about this spinoff being produced.

Is there a news source for the cancellation of SPOOKS? I couldn't find one.

I was just looking at the website for Rupert Penry-Jones and there is news there about episodes being filmed for Series 7. And I believe Series 7 is going to start running in September.

As I take it, it's been pulled from BBC America. Otherwise, it still seems to be in production by the BBC.

A&E ran MI-5 for awhile, then unceremoniously dropped it. Then BBC America ran it for awhile, but they were only re-running the same ones that had played on A&E, no new current episodes. Well of course the ratings tanked there. I was disappointed that no new episodes after Series 4 were run on BBC-A. I've been left with the cliffhanger for over a year of Carter and Harry staring down the sniper. And even that episode was from the A&E broadcast, not BBC-A.

Series 5 is on DVD here. Maybe you can rent it from somewhere like Netflix.

The official word from BBCA.

Dear MI-5 Fans:
Regretfully MI-5 Season 4 has been removed from the schedule due to failure to attract a significant audience. As you all know, it's a reality of ad-supported television that networks often have to change their schedules due to ratings.
Of course, we value the fans who have supported the show, and we've been really proud to air it on our network.

Sincerely,
BBCAMERICA.com

Here's the message board for Spooks over at BBCA. There's alot of very unhappy fans over there.
