Personally, I like them. A good way to identify certain users (and yourself) when you're skimming through long threads looking for a particular post. I don't mind them. That's right. In a long thread, avatars make it much easier to scan for posts by the writers you "have time for right now."

To those with the animated ones--Please DO turn them off. It's highly distracting to scroll down through a bunch of repeated avatars blinking, jumping, shooting, etc. I do remember you folks from your name, you know. Alzheimers hasn't gone that far yet!

You can't say no to Kerr Avon. You just can't. It's just a shame that I can't convert the file properly.

Avatars are not to be taken seriously (unless, I suppose, they are particularly offensive). I have a disturbing picture of a shirtless older William Shatner. This is no reflection on anything other than I find the picture amusing. Rarely does an avatar reflect the posts written.

I'm just happy they can be turned off. How? Preferences at upper right.

This is no reflection on anything other than I find the picture amusing. So it is appropriate to post something you find "disturbing" as your associated image is it? I found it amusing the 1st time but not the 31st. Thank god these wretched things can be turned off. Their only value is revealing the mental age of posters.
