One of the best Nordic actors of all time.

Corrected.

The only movies I can ever recall him being in were Victory, Dreamscape and Minority Report, and his acting in those left a lasting impression.

Well, Sir, you have much to look forward to! I'd start with the Bergmans: THE MAGICIAN, THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY, THE VIRGIN SPRING, HOUR OF THE WOLF -- and of course THE SEVENTH SEAL, which has given us some of the cinema's most iconic images as well as something often mentioned here, the most extensive use of the old Dies Irae chant in film. Then on to a distinctive Jesus in THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD and a contrasting cranky clergyman in HAWAII. Two classic film scores right there. And on and on . . . I particularly liked his work in BEST INTENTIONS, a Bergman screenplay directed by Bille August.

Three Days of the Condor.

My favorite of his roles.

Max seems to have been around forever. By rights he should surely be in his 90s at least, because he looked well into middle age in those early Bergman films! Did he ever look young?

Hugely impressive actor. Often far better than the films he was in. Along with Newman's music, he rose above (no pun intended) the otherwise stodgy GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD with a sincere performance.

He certainly is a wonderfully versatile actor from the few films of his I've seen. Can't wait to see him in the new Star Wars film.

I think he has one of those "ageless" faces. An imposing physical presence. He never really looked terribly young or terribly old. I think what throws many people, certainly "casual" film-goers, is that they base his age on what he looked like in THE EXORCIST. But I seem to recall an interview with make-up artist Dick Smith in which he said that he spent more time on Max Von Sydow than he did on Linda Blair.
