What's the status of Francis Monkman's propulsive score to The Long Good Friday? I've heard it is OOP. Did the original release contain the full score?

I think you may find some of that info in this previous TLGF thread of mine:

I like this one, and might just pull it off the shelf for tomorrow's drive to work. With the exception of the truly horrible reggae track, that is.

Isn't it Hoskins singing on that track?

Love the score. Used to have the movie taped off TV as a kid and always remembered the opening and end theme.Used to just sit there and watch the credits roll, listening to the music. Very catchy.
Some great 70's synth in there too, like the airport arrival scene.
I think the Silva CD is oop. Great cover too.

I think it's credited as Hoskins, but I've never really listened to it.

Mine's the Silva disc. Was there another release of it? I've a vague memory of it coming out again.

Amazing kind of ska/new wave meets 70s prog-rock/Tangerine Dream inspired score.

I'd love to know more about Monkman's synth work on RAIDERS and SUPERMAN II.

The OOP Silva release has good sound and is the one to get. The Silva CD was also available in Europe as a CD contained in the deluxe multi-disc DVD package of the film. last I heard. I don't think the US DVD release carried the CD.

Be very sure to avoid the more recent release on the Dressed To Kill label. Shockingly poor source material that is full of clicks and pops. The Silva release has no such problems.

I have this on vinyl. Very good score.
I wonder if now is the time to start thinking of parting with my vinyl collection.

To celebrate 35th anniversary of the film, Silva Screen is remastering and
re-releasing the long deleted original score, to include selected dialogue.
One of the truly great British gangster thrillers, The Long Good Friday rated
as the 21st best British film of the 20th century in a BFI 1999 survey. The film,
a 1981 British gangster piece starring Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren, was
first shown in the UK at the London Film Festival in November 1980. Viewed
today, 35 years after its release the film remains like all classic films
completely timeless. With its two outstanding leads, compelling direction
by John Mackenzie and filmed against a background of London about to
undergo massive change, this is a cinematic milestone.

The score is written by Francis Monkman, best known for being member of
progressive rock band Curved Air and Sky. Monkman’s electronic synth
score features seminal members of Sky – Herbie Flowers (Guitar), Tristan Fry
(percussion) and Kevin Peek (guitar) as well as Ronnie Aspery and Stan
Sulzmann on Saxes and helps to ground the film in the early 1980s.
“Monkman’s score tightens the tension to the screaming point”
All Music

The Long Good Friday will be released on CD/Download on 27th of November 2015

The original disc sounds great. Not sure if this will be any better.Such a shame it was accidentally recorded in mono.

I've also got this score on the Dressed To Kill label, it sounds like it was recorded from a very poor quality LP......beware folks !

The Silva Screen CD is the one to have.....if you can find it.

That ending......

Further to our previous announcement regarding the long awaited reissue of The Long Good Friday. Unfortunately the wait will be slightly longer as the release has been postponed until early next year. With other material coming to light in recent weeks the best option has been to improve the package even more. More details will posted here shortly.

No indication as to whether this is true stereo or "electronically enhanced."

Just got this one as it has always been a favourite and was thrilled to hear that it would be stereo. Sadly they have not found the multi tracks and this is a virtual stereo presentation using the mono source. Generally better than the mono original but at times a bit jarring and not the stereo sound I was hoping for. Still this is a step up and considering the earlier Silva disc is OOP then this is a solid release. Nicely packaged with good booklet too.

Hope one day the tapes turn up for this as it still plays very well.
