Despite the possible trouble regarding this subject, I felt the need to write about it. I e-mailed Harkit Records to confirm their upcoming release of Barry's Boom score, and their monumental response to my e-mail quite surprised me. In fact, instead of replying my initial question (which i'll quote here: "Hello, Amazon.com has John Barry's score to Boom on pre-order from your label. Is this release really coming from you? Thank you, Alex"), they actually took the liberty to check my posts here on the board (which were quite hard, I must admit), and basically answered everything I talked about here. I apologized to them, and i'll do it here, for saying they're not hard-working. I must also apologize for underestimating their work behind other releases they claim were legal (such as Klute), and i'll have no further words on BOOM until more light is shed on the release. I thought about quoting their e-mail, but i'm not doing it because they basically threatened me with a "Disclaimer Notice" attached to their response (they asked me to read it) which claimed that doing such a thing was illegal and legal action could be taken. They also said they would keep a close eye on me, and further criticized our "little world of bloggers". I never expected such a response, but there you go. I knew lots of dirty things went behind producing those shiny discs we all cherish, but this is beyond the norm, for me. Alex P.S: How I wish now that BOOM was released by another label.

The more I read this, the fucking madder I get. Don't cower to these weasels.

Like I said, I recognize my harsh tone in the BOOM thread, but they went too far with their response. And they actually took the liberty of reading this board to attack me. Of course, they're welcome to take legal action (!), i've never been in europe . Alex Hmm. I didn't think your tone was harsh. there have been far more inflammatory things said here than what you said. I don't understand Harkit's anger. I'm not familiar with them at all, but threatening a consumer seems...counterproductive.

alex basically accuses them of being bootleggers and has yet to retract said statement.

I think everyone knows how I feel about these sorts of threats - sue or shut the hell up - it's the Internet. People have said fairly incorrect and even damaging things about me, all untrue - what am I going to do, sue everyone? Basically, and sadly, you can say anything you damn well please and get away with it. I know an actor who had an affair with a almost-sixteen year old girl (he was in his thirties) - the sex was consensual but after five years she went to the police, he was arrested and charged with the usual things, and then they plea bargained and he served thirty days in jail, and doesn't have to register as a sex offender. On various boards, this fellow, who should have known better but didn't, has been called a pedophile repeatedly and the people doing the name-calling say he was convicted of being a pedophile and a child molester, neither of which is in any way true. When that's pointed out to these creeps, they keep it up, even though they know it's slanderous and untrue. Why? Because they can. Because they're anonymous cowardly cretins. And thus - the joys of Internet life. It's not as bad as it used to be in the wild and wooly days of Usenet, but it's bad. All that said - note to Harkit: Sue or shut the hell up and don't threaten people who post on chat boards. Or state your case to them nicely in an e-mail. Since we know you're not going to sue, really, shut up and make your CDs and sell them. Whether they're legal and have been licensed properly is something only you can know, unless the rights holders speak up and say stop. Clearly, in the case of Klute, Mr. Kendall did a proper licensing of the title. If the Harkit release had done that then I don't think Mr. Kendall would have been able to, but that is just a supposition on my part. If Harkit has only read this thread, what entertainment awaits them should they choose to use the search function. I own a couple of Harkit releases - they're okay. Sound could be better, but I'm sure they're doing the best they can with what they have. There - I've offered an opinion - sue me.
