Sadly, one drawback of the improved sound on this one is the performance of the Hungarian orchestra. In comparison to the ferocity of First Blood and the propulsive excitement of Rambo 2, this one fails dramatically. At times, it's very slack and loose, with below par percussion and brass. Even the strings seem to lack the emotional warmth, power and resonance of the other two scores. I actually winced a few times at the flubs and strained efforts in some sections. If I remember correctly, this was the score that Goldsmith drew the line on in recording his scores with them. It has some lovely new themes and motifs, but it's always going to lag behind the other two scores for me, in no small part due to the lesser quality playing.
