David: Didn't really enjoy your Christmas score stuff on the FSM podcast a year or so ago, and don't agree at all with your Dark Knight opinions. I agree with Andrew on this: Solid score, solid film.

OK, I still have yet to see the film, but I did pick up the album yesterday at Amoeba. Now, I loved the film BATMAN BEGINS, but it was really not until a year later that I came to enjoy most of the album, finding some of it too ambient but there was still good stuff there. Now I've been reading the comments here for the past few weeks about THE DARK KNIGHT score, listened to some short clips and liked them and now that I working my through the album, I have to say that I REALLY like this score a great deal. There is more of a Howard presence here than in BB and I like Zimmer's modifications to his initial thematic and rhythmic material. "Harvey Two-Face" is a wonderful track, as are "Blood On My Hands", "Like a Dog Chasing Cars", "A Little Anarchy" and "Watch The World Burn". I even really found the sound design aspect of "Why So Serious" very engaging. I didn't know quite what to expect at all, especially since I've not seen the film, and am surprised at how much this works for me.... I'm sure I'll love the film too!

I actually like A Dark Knight which is kind of a more electronic version of Zimmer's themes put into a long track. Makes good walking with iPod music. I found it a little too editorial like in the film but I do like what Zimmer did with it musically. Oh gosh, I'm actually complimenting Zimmer.

I actually feel just the opposite. To me, TDK is a decent action soundtrack and TDKR is a big, lumbering mess of bombast. Just like Man of Steel, the few enjoyable parts of TDKR work better on album than in the film. Both films are just horribly spotted and often get buried under insanely loud and completely inappropriate noise. This isn't always the case, mind you, just in some scenes.
Agreed. TDK is superior to TDKR on CD. Though to be fair an embarrassingly significant portion of TDKR is lifted note for note from TDK... completely unoriginal material.
