Don't laugh, but I've been listening to Horner's "The Grinch" soundtrack the last couple of days. I love it, especially the song "Where Are You Christmas". What do you guys think of it, and what are some other good Christmas soundtracks?

Blizzard (Mark McKenzie) is excellent. Alas, it's out-of-print, but for those who were fortunate enough to pick up a copy when it was still available, it's a real treat.

I used to play Xmas music in July Henry. Haven't the last few years though. Guess I have a few days left to pick up an old tradition.

I listen to those any time of year too, along with Williams's JOY TO THE WORLD CD....

On the non-soundtrack front, I've listened to Meco's "Christmas In the Stars: The Star Wars Christmas Album" for its so-bad-it's-unbelievable-fun value at different times of year. Of higher value is "A Christmas Gift for You from Philles Records" produced by Phil Spector, which DOES have Darlene Love's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)", which was used as the opening song in the film GREMLINS, so it's vaguely soundtrack related....

Die hard + 2, Gremlins + 2, the closer it gets to Christmas the more sentimental for festive scores.

Silly me I thought the subject was that wonderful Preston Sturges film about the gag played on Dick Powell...

I actually have two playlists for these scores. One with the traditional Xmas music in and one without. This way I can play the scores all year long.

I dont know if you've heard these 2 slight Christmas scores. Henry.

Silent Night Bloody Night. 1972
Composer. Gershon Kingsley

Most of the tracks are dominated by stringed instruments, violins, cellos, Double Bass, + good percussions. Its a heavy orchestra score, also has harpsichord + pianos, a touch of Psycho to this score, theres also a bit of Christmas in there.

Silent Night Deadly Night. 1984
Perry Botkin.

This score Is heavy, most of the tracks have percussion + distorted percussions, & theres back ground noises crashes banging, acoustic guitars, acoustic piano, synths, & harpsichord, a fine score that has some weird tracks, but still manages in parts to play Christmas bits.

Yes that's understable.. Home Alone only gets the orchestra play, then near Christmas the full score is nice.

How can this thread have gone this long without a mention of Alan Silvestri's THE POLAR EXPRESS, one of my personal favorite Christmas scores?

I've never heard of it, Thanks for the tip though, I'll try it, Silvestri is a solid composer that's done interesting work.
