Where does this one fall in the hearts of film score enthusiasts (and David Newman fans)? I came across the poster when I was going through some boxes, and I immediately thought of Newman's lively, bouncy, wonderfully orchestrated score that totally made the movie 200% more effective. Both his original material and the adaptations of the TV shows were really outstanding.

Is there thirst for a release of The Flintstones? A grail for anybody? Or a "who cares"? I would welcome it. It should have been released looooong ago.

Oh, there are a lot of other D. Newman scores I'd rather see get some kind of proper release, but of course I wouldn't pass THE FLINTSTONES up were one of the usual suspects to do a limited edition run of the score.

I'm with JohnMullin on this one. Not the first David Newman I'd wish for, but I'd definitely pick it up. And as you say, I enjoyed his adaptations of the show's Hoyt Curtin scoring. In fact, I'm quite fond of Curtin's work on the series (which is surprisingly lively, full of low brass for fat Fred and his lumbering prehistory).

When, not if but when they release Newman`s Flintstones score I really hope that they also include his sequel score but that wont happen I guess for the same reason Intrada couldn`t include both Bill & Ted scores on the same release.

Fantastic score by David Newman... hope to see a release along with others jewels he composed such as OTHER'S PEOPLE MONEY, SCOOBY DOO, NUTTY PROFESSOR and so on... David Newman have recreated the "comedy scoring"... no more mickey mousing but rousing and huge score !

Always wanted to see a recording sessions of one of his scores... especially the Cruella deVil cue in 102 DALMATIANS !

Can't wait for his upcoming THE SPIRIT !

This is exactly the kind of Newman's comedy scoring I can't stand.
Now if anyone finally released his The Nutty Professor, That Night, Bedazzled, Fire Birds, Don't Tell mom babysitter's dead or Paradise...

Most of Newman's "wacky" comedy scoring of the 90's was pretty excruciating, just re-arranging the James Newton Howard/Danny Elfman temp tracks.

I think PARADISE is a beautiful, forgotten gem. That's high on my list.

JINGLE ALL THE WAY is actually really good as well... so is the music he wrote for Norman Jewison's OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY and a lot of the other movies he's done with Danny DeVito that haven't made it out yet... DEATH TO SMOOCHY in particular.

I think TOMMY BOY is a really good score as well, although it's loaded with pretty blatant lifts from MRS. DOUBTFIRE, BACK TO SCHOOL and MIDNIGHT RUN.

Also, THE NUTTY PROFESSOR scores, or at least the first one. Maybe Varese could do a box set of the Eddie Murphy / David Newman collabs? I'm semi kidding as we're talking about the some of the sh**iest movies ever produced here, but I'd buy 'em none the less.

I semi-agree with the guy who criticized DN's rambunctious comedy scoring. It can really be too much sometimes, but there are usually some very pretty melodies in there that usually get me hooked.

Actually, that was just TOMMY BOY with those composers. It's certainly one of Newman's weakest (I imagine that there was a very small amount of time to do the film, which would account for the obvious temping and the presence of six additional composers in the end credits), but even lesser David Newman is still pretty good.

As much as I love Newman, I admit that there is a good deal of temping in his scores. Sometimes, though, it works, like the quotes of THE UNTOUCHABLES and THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN in DISORGANIZED CRIME and the borrowing of his brother's theme from THE PLAYER in MATILDA.

I agree with the guy that said that THE FLINTSTONES isn't at the top of the list of requested Newman scores. For me, JINGLE ALL THE WAY tops the list. Awesome score.

The Flintstones has some nice themes; it deserves a release in my book. And I believe this is a Universal property. Not Paramount. Or is that ... 'Univershell?' wink

Well, 'current thoughts' are posted the minute you ressurect a thread (if there's an interest in the topic in the first place). Creating a new thread doesn't make it more current than ressurecting an old one! smile So here are a couple of earlier threads:
