WONDERFUL film Directed by Richard Kwietniowski starred John Hurt and Jason Priestley from 1998. I whole heartedly recommend this film for both Gays and Non Gays who enjoy uniformly excellent acting and crisp writing and for those looking for 'something different'. This is argueably my favorite performance by the great John Hurt. It's basically about - Romantic Pursuit, and it's exceptional. (Though I'm nowhere near John Hurts age, I can sort of see myself as his character in the film - only the other two people would be Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese!) If you've seen the film, feel free to comment. Otherwise, try to rent it!

was kinda like-a European film in that it didn't have the usual American happy ending or dramatic denoument.

I liked it.

Such a shame that a film called Love and Death on Long Island wasn't actually filmed on Long Island...

A few exteriors were shot on Long Island.

I guess the rest of the budget for L.I. filming went to Mr. Hurt and/or Mr. Priestley.

'BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN' wasn't filmed in Wyoming... it goes on.

One of my favorite film ad lines was for Susan Hayward's I'LL CRY TOMORROW:

"Actually filmed on location---inside a woman's soul!"

(.....No drivers needed, no permits, no honey-wagons, no rented hotel rooms, no per diems!..... big grin )

Hotpants College II... the film does such a good job of satirising the Jason Priestley character's world. So much so that it doesn't quite fit in with the story about John Hurt, which is characterised mostly by a very quiet, reserved humor ... but then it's an unusual premise for a film in the first place, so I just rolled with it.

Really great, ambient soundtrack, with nice bits of dialogue thrown in. I picked this up for $1 years ago, and have just got around to playing it. It's like the "Bladerunner" soundtrack - a really laid back, poignant listen.

A bittersweet film with some lovely moments thanks to both stars --

I have always admired John Hurt's work - Quinten Crisp in THE NAKED CIVIL SERVANT (I havent seen the sequel) , John Merrick in THE ELEPANT MAN , and The Fool opposite Oliver's KING LEAR are a few high points.

I thought that Jason Priestley gave a sensitive performance - which I did not expect.
