FYI,

I got this title last last week and it turned out to be a rather delightful surprise.

Very retro-1960's, full of melody and charm from composer Mario Nascimbene.

Perhaps one of the best (and most unexpected) releases of the year.

If you have any doubts, just go here and listen to the clips:

http://www.kritzerland.com/scent.html

This is a little gem that could be overlooked by many.

Listen to he clips and take a chance, you'll be richly rewarded.

I doubt it's being overlooked Ford. It seems to have sold very well.

I always feel Nascimbene got a rough deal in many quarters. I think that's because of his 'epic' film philosophy, which involved a very minimalist approach as a rule, as in 'Barabbas', 'Alexander the Great' etc.. He would figure that archaic music must have been simpler, and score accordingly, which is one valid take. This seems to gall listeners who think Rozsa's is the only attack angle.

But 'The Vikings' is charming, his 'ancient' scores evoke properly, and his 'modern' material is as good often as Morricone. There's a hint of Rota in this score.

I think he'll come into his own again.

I hope you're right - he was really wonderful, and I do love his scores for his smaller films - I also really like his epics - Barabbas, Solomon and Sheba, and The Vikings.

When I found out about the new release, an improvement to what I have, I did dig out the LP transfer I made and reviewed this score. Along the way I learned a little more about the Todd AO process. The review has been read by quite a few people so I hope that it sells out. If I had the extra money I'd love to hear the improvement that the mastering did but I'll have to live with the transfer/adobe audition I did.

I'll send you an email through your website to confirm shipping address. I'd have thought I'd have it by now, too.

I'm really enjoying this disc. I don't have much Nascimbene, it seems his music is a bit difficult to come by these days, but I'd love to hear more. Any time I come across a Nascimbene track on a compilation, it is always arresting.

Thanks! We're getting ever so close, and it would be our first sellout, although Evening Primrose is quite low now, and Une Chambre En Ville is inching its way down to about 150 copies.

Magnificent job!! I actually have the Mono Ramrod LP, which has always been a treasure. This presentation is delightful - tell us about how you got the incredible stereo elements. (I love the liner notes - I did not know that this was a post Todd-AO 70mm film.)

Extra special thanks to haineshisway - a gentleman and class act.

Gave the CD a quick spin last night and it's even better than the clips let on. I'm only familiar with Nascimbene's major titles - Vikings, Barabbas, One Million Years BC - so this was a delight and refreshing change of pace. Great booklet with a fascinating backstory on the film's production. The CD has outstanding audio quality, I love that wide stereo separation as it sounds like I'm listening to a great analog LP (and I mean that in the best sense).

Get it before it's gone, folks!

I finally got my copy of Scent of Mystery in the mail today. I complained this morning to the post office manager and it suddenly turned up in my mail box. I was going to start a new thread with the title "Complaining Helps" but figured Sheriff might just lock it. Yikes! Since I got to listen to the re-master I changed my review a little bit.

By the way the package was mailed on 8/26 so it took a week to arrive from LA.

Glad it got there finally. Normally, packages seem to get to people in a day or two, but I've heard from several people with this release that it took four to six days, which I simply don't understand.

I strongly suspect it has to do with our North Park Branch of the Post Office.

Better order before he runs out!
