I've been playing THE MEDUSA TOUCH in the car today, for the first time in a while (probably a few years). It's still a fantastic score; with pounding action music and those throbbing, pulsing suspense tracks. But is it me or is the sound quality a notch down from other Lewis scores? I actually think I prefer the rerecordings of the MEDUSA tracks on the 2-disc collection (which includes the organ music not on the score disc).

The Madwoman of Chaillot is just stunning. Theater of Blood is fun - and has Price and Rigg! Theatre of Blood is an awesome score and a fun movie. Has anyone ever noticed the similarity between the Theatre of Blood main title and the theme from Oh, God! by Jack Elliott ? (which would be a welcome score release, by the way)

from what I saw, Lewis rarely disappointed. The Man who Haunted Himself and 11 Harrowhouse were delicious. And the Madwoman of Chaillot was a bit of secret gem in LP days.

Theatre of Blood is one fine score (and the film itself a blast for Vincent Price and/or Shakespeare aficionados), but as always with Michael J. Lewis you can immediately tell which parts he orchestrated himself (like the Main Theme) and others that were orchestrated by Lawrence Ashmore (like The Duel). Lewis's own grasp of orchestral color is severely limited.

That one has a nice theme (featured on the "Orchestral Film Music 1969-94" sampler), but it's a bit thin on the whole. Maybe UPON THIS ROCK is his finest work.

Revisited Bryan Forbes' THE NAKED FACE (1984) on Kino Lorber's recent new blu-ray. I was struck by the gorgeous score that I had forgotten about since I haven't seen the film in decades (an underrated little gem IMO). It has a fantastic theme, lush and sweeping, though I imagine some will be turned off by the frequent '80s synth drum beats (they do kinda stick out a bit). Who knows if the masters to this score exist, but I'd sure welcome a soundtrack!
