There was a widescreen DVD of Mountains of the Moon, but it was unfortunately not anamorphic (while the film was 1.85, it was shot with a was hard matte, so the pan-and-scan version is cropped).

Mountains Of The Moon is a truly great film with a truly great musical score. Michael Small is one of my favorites, but his scores are rarely found on CD. I wish someone would record his incredible music for The Parallax View! This film is very worthy of a Blu-ray release. The DVD has a 1.33:1 ratio and doesn't begin to do this gem justice. The score is outstanding; love the African rhythm blended in! Say what you will about the CD (and the levels are the lowest I have heard on most any CD), but the existing video presentations are as bad or worse. This movie could use a a fair amount of remastering love for home video and CD.

Yes, it is mastered at a lower than optimum level but........... there is nothing wrong with the sound mix or dynamic range; it sounds great, on my sound system at least! As for expansion, I only program half the tracks as is: 7, 3,11, 16, 17, 13, 23,18, 19, 21,22 bruce

Yeah, I never felt there was much of a problem with the sound on the CD. Even with the low level. Don't know that I would double-dip without a substantial amount of new material in the film but not on CD.
