This reminds me of the same type of deletion of the intermission in the WHERE EAGLES DARE DVD and Blu-ray. You can get it only on the laserdisc. Plus, in that case, you get an intermission cue, AND an Entr'acte. Don't these people putting out these new DVDs/Blu-rays care anymore? That elimination of the Intermission and Entr'Acte on WHERE EAGLES DARE is especially grating. Who knows why it was left off the DVD. Different source material used for the DVD transfer? But is was probably inevitable that once it was left off of the DVD, it would not reappear on the Blu-ray, since either the same transfer was reused for the Blu-ray, or the same DVD materials were re-mastered.

But is was probably inevitable that once it was left off of the DVD, it would not reappear on the Blu-ray, since either the same transfer was reused for the Blu-ray, or the same DVD materials were re-mastered. I believe, possibly, WHERE EAGLES DARE was considered for roadshow treatment initially in the US, but instead went the general release route. In UK and maybe Australia 70mm roadshows were presented, thereby necessitating the intermission. In the US the Intermission and Entr'acte was eliminated along with 70mm presentation. I seem to recall reading that early US trade previews were presented in 70mm with the intermission, but since a general release pattern was finally decided on, only 35 mm prints were made available without intermission. Unfortunately whom ever prepared the DVD decided to use the general release version. The earlier Laser edition used the roadshow version. Too bad the DVD does not give viewers the option to watch which ever version they wish. There are several examples of where the DVD fails to live up to previous, more carefully released laser editions: GUYS & DOLLS - exit music only available on laser edition SWEET CHARITY - exit music only available on laser EXODUS & SUNRISE AT CAMPOBELLO - contain intermission cards, but not the DVD Most irritating: the missing intermission/Entr'acte in the DVD of DIARY OF ANNE FRANK Surprisingly the Entr'acte is included on Twilight Time's limited Blu-ray of JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBUG which was not included in any previous home video release. Also GUNS OF NAVARRONE contained an intermission with generous Entr'acte music. However, most audiences saw it without intermission. Fortunately the DVD provides the intermission as a special feature.
