It's about time we did one of these. I know that I'm a controversial character around here, but nothing would please me more than to meet some of my harshest critics/opponents in real life. Seriously. The divide between online persona and real-life person can be so vast sometimes that it would be THRILLING to meet these people in real life. Perhaps we would hit it off big time, who knows? So, which FSM member have you met in real life? For me, it would be these three: Nils - fellow Norwegian fan (met several times, including my own 30th birthday) Bjarte - fellow Norwegian fan (met several times) Bach-Choi - a guy who doesn't post much anymore, but he's working in the film music biz (with Marco Beltrami, for example) and was in Norway on a business trip some years ago. We hooked up and talked over a breakfast/lunch. That's it, basically. Not very impressive, but then again, I live in the outskirts of Europe. So, tell us the stories, the intrigues, the whole shabang in your FSM encounters!

Oh, that's easy. I haven't met any! It's true Thor, maybe you would get on great with your harshest critics, but it's also possible that some of the seemingly nicest, most reasonable people around here could be real gits in real life. Do you know what a git is, Thor? Going off on a tangent really, but my best friends know zero about film music, whereas the guy who lives up the road has become a kind of "friend" because we share a passion for film music. Unfortunately, he's a git.

What FSM'ers have you met? Surprisingly more than I thought. Interesting Thor, I find that if people have rubbed me the wrong way on the forums that I'm not that interested in extending that communication past the computers---you seem to have the opposite view, which perhaps you are right. People are different in "real life", I'm certainly more shy, and a hell of a lot less confrontational....usually JonMovieMusicUK - Many times. He lives about 15 minutes from my university so when I was living in the dorms last year and stayed on campus on weekends, we met up twice, and raided some CD shops in the area, among other things.nThis year we have caught up a few times during the week for lunch, but as I only have classes on Tuesday and Thursday, I took advantage of the long weekends and came home (minimizing the time spent at those awful dorms!) and did some softball scorekeeping for some extra cash. Morricone - Briefly chatted at a couple of the GSPO concerts the past few years. Very nice man. Knows his golden age stuff Neil S. Bulk and Tom Servo - at the last GSPO concert. Very fun people to talk to. I am envious of their knowledge of John Williams! John Morgan - a brief hello at the last GSPO concert. He was a celebrity with all the folks tracking him down to sign their booklets. Preston Neal Jones and Ron Burbella - only brief interaction at the same concert. William Stromberg and Anna Bonn - met 'em at a GSPO concert...in May? and then saw them again at the one that Bill conducted in October. Not only great musicians, but also great people. Some of the friendliest down to earth folks. I'm sure there will be more added before I croak?

I haven't met any FSM members yet. However, I have met Armin Terzer, who frequents the MMUK message board.

True, but I'd hardly call one post (which is all Armin has ever made here) a qualification for being considered an FSM member.

If I am forgetting anyone, please respond. I am at that age when memory is the first thing to start going. In no particular order: Logied, Guy McKone's sister and bro-in-law and nephew, Mark Hatfield, HRocco, Shaun Rutherford, Shaun's friend who posted on the "snowy night" thread, Wedge, Lorien {W. David Lichty], solarw, Jerry Goldsmith (he was an FSMer whether he liked it or not), John Mauceri (a lurker IMHO which is good enough for me), Preston N. Jones, Pete Appruzese. Mythically, I have met Jim Cleveland, Swashbuckler, C. Kinsinger and Brian Mellies. Almost met Sis, would've had I not been in physical therapy when she sneaked by and left a little something while I was rehabbing from a tangle with an auto. Future plans include a rendezvous somewhere in Europe with Thor and a hike in a Scottish forest with Timmer. (sorry, joan, but we only met via land line in the equally mythical Detroit weekend back in the turn of the millenium)

I have known Curt Hardaway- AKA "ARCH STANTON" since we met shortly after I graduated from high school in 1974. We were members of the now long defunct DASFS- DALLAS AREA SCIENCE-FANTASY SOCIETY. Parted paths for a period whilst I relocated to other states and otherwise got occupied. The Son oBob sure cooks a mean meal. Ate one of his feasts last night at our "Monster Kid" meeting held over in Ft.Worth. He's someone I can call a bastard or a jerk and still love him With no fear of reprisal....
