Next year is the 20th anniversary of this great-little deep-sea monster-flick.

Watched the movie yesterday again and I think the score could be expanded by at least 10 minutes.

Let's see if Varese still holds some rights or if another lable picks it up.

Could be a job for LaLa !!

Seasons greetings !!

Oh I would LOVE this! A tremendous score with some cool stuff missing.

The original Varese CD has particularly lacklustre sound quality too, so a little boost in that department would be welcome too!

I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

There is a great cue in the scene where Beck and Doc are watching Williams's footage from inside the sunken vessel.

Almost like a lament for the victims of this experiment.

A short but wonderful theme which is IIRC not on the Varese CD.

Personally I would sooner labels targeted scores that have had no CD release before, rather than ones with a more than adequate representation already. LEVIATHAN is fun, but it's NOT a great Goldsmith score and certainly NOT a great film. It doesn't need expanding in the way that, say, EXTREME PREJUDICE didn't need expanding (those extra tracks are, to me, entirely redundant) but ALIEN or STAR TREK TMP did.

This should really be on the lower priority rung. There are scores out there than haven't seen any light of day at all.

Then many lables would go out-of-business while trying to get SECONDS, ISLANDS IN THE STREAM or whatever out.

I'd go for a new and expanded release of Leviathan 'in a flash' Here's hoping we get some previously unreleased Goldsmith too.

Oh, I know. But the thing is, something like NOT WITHOUT MY DAUGHTER is a very low priority for me. I'm happy enough with the Edel issue to not upgrade (especially in the current financial climate). Similarly I'm happy enough with the original CASSANDRA CROSSING to leave the expanded Prometheus, for a while at least. And if there's only about another 10 minutes of LEVIATHAN, is it really worth doing?

It's not just Goldsmith, of course. I'm currently listening to STARCRASH - the Silva issue that was paired with UNTIL SEPTEMBER. What is there about the BSX version to get me to upgrade? The sound seems okay to me (obviously the clearer the better, but I'm not a fanatic about crystal sound quality unless it's exceptionally poor, such as FSM's ON DANGEROUS GROUND) and there's only one bonus track.

The thing is, the money's staying in the bank. I'm not spending on current expansions whereas I would be more likely to spend on titles new to CD. (An exception to that is LINK, which is so hard to find legitimately at a rational price that it might as well be unreleased.)

FYI, in the case of most of the titles you have mentioned that have been reissued, you seem not to take into account that the earlierr releases have been out of print for over a decade or longer and where quite costly to get if you didn't get them then they first came out.

In the case of NOT WITHOUT MY DAUGHTER it was going for $30 to $50 dollars on Amazon.

the UNTIL SEPTEMBER / STARCRASH for quite a bit more.

The newer editions (In my biased view) sound better then the original releases and in come cases have extra tracks that really deserved to be on the original.

In the case of THE CASSANDRA CROSSING, the new disc features the entire score as well as the album version (with improved sound as well).

Of course you have decide what you want or don't, but there are alot of facts that impact what is released or not.

Well, I was only watching the movie again last night and ear-marked some cues. I did not make a breakdown of the cues.

Although I am sure that there are at least 10 minutes to be added - it could also be more than 20 !!
Maybe I have the time during the holidays to have a closer look at this.

Also I think back then the mastering was done primarily for the LP and the same master was used for the CD.
So I am sure that there is a lot of sound quality improvement possible.
Especially because the equipment now is so much better than only a few years ago.

And as Ford just said, there are new generations of Goldsmith-Fans who would applaud a new release.

And what about everybody who did not get a chance to get the OOP items?

Yes...
ANY additional music is welcome.
The remaster would greatly enhance the sound.
Tracks in film order instead of album order.
(unless Intrada gets it, then expect a 2CD set)
plus
informative liner notes,
as this film should have been good and instead to turned out to be a lousy underwater alien clone vying for box office attention against THE ABYSS.

That would be "the potential customer" then...?

Hi. The Leviathan score, as represented in the film itself, is 58 minutes long. The CD was about 39 minutes, so it could be expanded by around 19 minutes. The CD omitted many shorter cues, all less than 2 minutes in length. I'd like to see an expanded Deep Rising release, a companion piece to Leviathan. That one's CD had only 32 minutes out of 62.
