Anyone remember these?
The big ones were the best (ALIEN, Outland, Popeye, Psycho), but the mini ones were okay too, apart from the horrible Star Trek II one, because it was in B&W. I always wished the CE3K one was a biggie, without the word lines/balloons, but never mind.
I dug them out the other day and the memories came flooding back smile
Anyone got a complete list of titles that were released?

I have a bunch of those. I think he also did this with several Star Trek episodes.

Here are the ones I own:

Star Trek: TMP
Star Trek II: TWOK (two printings, one with reversed pages)
The Lord of the Rings (Bakshi, 1978)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Kaufman, 1978)
Battlestar Galactica (1978 series pilot)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Several Star Trek episodes
Outland
Alien

I think that Trek II was last one published, and why it was b&w - b&w was cheaper to produce: only one ink and only one pass through the printing press (as opposed to multiple inks and multiple passes).

I sort of remember seeing Psycho in a bookstore years ago. Did Anobile also do that one?

How did Anobile put these together? I imagine getting a high quality copy of the film itself, and the printing out the key storytelling frames? Really loved these things- even my HAIR photonovel!

I know Anobile also did a Movie Novel for ROCKY HORROR PICTURESHOW. I've got that one. It was a paperback. If anyone listed it I'm sorry I missed it. But I also have a book in the same vain as his movie novels for CLOCKWORK ORANGE. It's the exact same as Anobile's Movie Novels with the stills and the words beneath the picture as opposed to the talk bubbles. But it's in black and white instead of color. Doesn't look bad though. It's bigger than the ordinary Fotonovels of old but smaller than the Movie Novels.

There's also a Video Novel for the pilot episode of THE INCREDIBLE HULK TV series. I've got that too. And Fotonovels of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, and of course the newer revived (but failed) FOTONOVELS of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, DINOSAUR, and CHARLIE'S ANGELS.

By the way, does anyone know what happened to Richard J. Anobile? I can't find much information on him anywhere. Not even sure if he's still living or not.

My dad had a few of these in the early-80s when I was little. The only two I remember are Alien and Outland, which I enjoyed years before seeing the actual films. Still have them somewhere, probably packed in a box out in the garage.

Never heard of this before, but let me get this straight: these are comic books using selected, "crucial" stills from the given film to tell its story?

Yep. There are actually cartoon ballons over the character's heads with their dialogue from the films.

In the pre-home video days, these were fantastic, especially the Treks. I still have most of my collection of them.

Every times I get to a used bookstore, I look for Fotonovels. I think I'm getting too damned old...
