Ogniem I Mieczem (or With Fire and Sword) is the first book of The Trilogy from Henryk Sienkiewicz, the author of Quo Vadis, which itself has a fine film score tradition by the likes of Rózsa and Kaczmarek.
I picked up the score without having heard it because I tend to like the Polish film scorers: Kilar, Kaczmarek, Preisner. Haven't had a chance to listen to it through yet, but am curious whether anyone else has heard it.
Congratulations on your purchase! Happy to hear you ordered this woderful epic symphonic score. All of the purchases I made in the last year (and there are hundreds of them)"Ogniem i mieczem" is my favourite next to Lavagnino´s "L´impero del sole". If you like Debski´s score try also his Stara Basn. It is almost equally good.
Thanks, I have just ordered Ogniem I Mieczem (or With Fire and Sword) based on these recommendations. I have recently discovered Stara Basn and 1920 Bitwa Warszawska (Battle of Warsaw 1920) by Debski and was interested in more. For anyone seeking to discover something new, and enjoy lyrical, epic, and colorful music, I encourage you to seek out the music of Krzesimir Debski!
