“Gast Waltzing’s horn-heavy score is pleasingly old-school and subtly parodic.” - Variety

“The film actually has a great throwback score, too, with Gast Waltzing providing a vintage 70’s cop movie-vibe to the proceedings.” - Ain’t It Cool News

JCVD, the surprise hit film starring Belgian action star Jean-Claude van Damme as himself, features an infectious big band score that will make fans of the of 1970s action thriller scoring (Don Ellis, Lalo Schifrin, David Shire) smile - and dance!

This is our second album with Luxemburg's most prominent film composer and jazz musician, Gast Waltzing (George and the Dragon), but this score is perhaps the complete opposite of that grand symphonic work. Accompanying the tongue-in-cheek character of the film ("a French-language meta-movie parody par excellence" according to Variety), Gast's score is "horn-heavy score is pleasingly old-school and subtly parodic" (also in the words of Variety).

The strikingly bouncy main theme, which appears in several different versions, is juxtaposed with bleak string suspense, improvised jazz trumpet parts and percussive action scoring.

Nope!
He said that now the titles won't be limited, though U guess the pressings will still be between 500 and 1500 and if a title "flies out" because of big demand, they will repress it wink
Nice!

Btw, the samples are funkyyyyyy!

Is there a difference with the album edited by wpr music in Luxembourg? Or is it the same album in this case for a worlwide distribution?

Our album is different as we did our own programming and mastering of the CD, and I believe it includes more versions of the fantastic theme.

Cheers,

mc

Seems like Waltzing is very good with fan favourite material. First that whole orchestral fantasy thing with GEORGE AND THE DRAGON and now this 70's jazz-funk throwback.

Wow, I just saw this film. What a treat!

This is the first time I've really seen Van Damme branch out and show excellent acting skills, especially in that monologue. Great, realistic portrayal of the hostage situation, challenging the "tough guy" image we have of him. I assume those weren't his real parents portraying his parents?

Waltzing's music was pretty good too, in that down and dirty 70's jazz style, with muted brass and some heavy percussion here and there. I think this film draws a lot of inspiration from DOG DAY AFTERNOON, not only in the music but also in the resemblance of one of the robbers (the guy with long hair).

This is Van Damme's COPLAND, the film to throw in the face of those who think he can't act his way out of a shoebox. Great to see that he doesn't take himself too seriously either.

I just saw the film. A good one.

Didn't find the score too appealing though.

And no Thor, those were not his real parents. :-D
