Maybe I will, but I would like to see first if anyone has it to hear opinions..
If anything is missing, eg. the liner notes (I would like those)

I have the ZYX set, and excepting the ZYX logos, it's identical to the GNP set. ZYX is a European licensor which has also issued some of Ian Anderson's (Jethro Tull) stuff. I've never noticed any issues with my FWIA set that would cause me concern.

And, of course, the ZYX set is in print and much cheaper.

Rich

Oh, thank you for the info. smile
So, it has all the liner notes too I assume?
(yes, you said they are identical, but just wanted to double-check. wink )

OK, had to go dig the set out to answer that question! smile. Yes, all the booklets/liner notes are there. The only difference that I can guess at (I don't have a copy of the original GNPC set at hand) is that the ZYX set is in an open-ended slip case, where the GNPC may have had a more elaborate case/box.

Also, all discs in this set, and the case, still have GPNC logos in addition to the ZYX logos.

Hope this helps...

Well, if i understand correctly what an open-ended slip case is, I think the GNPC was that way too:

Anyway, it seems a big bargain to buy 6 cds for $15.75 (approx. $2.62 per cd)!

That's exactly the set I've got. And, wow, if you can get it for $15.75, that IS a bargain!

Years ago it took me 12 months to purchase all the discs separately at around $15 dollars each off of Ebay because the box set cost too much. roll eyes

If it's the same contents and packaging as the old GNP, that's a GREAT deal. Go for it! The original box is actually one of the most expensive soundtrack items I ever got back in the late 90s or early 2000s.

Thanks for the heads up. I snagged one at $15.75. Almost too good to be true. Here's hoping it's the real deal and the seller comes through.

I hope the deal IS as great as it seems for those getting it now. Years ago I picked it up at a Media Play that was going out of business. The set had just came out in the past year and this location was closing, and although all the CDs were marked down, this one was still around $70. Ended up splurging, and it was a nice treat indeed.

I received the set today, and as rich.sherrill mentioned, this is virtually identical to the original GNP Crescendo release but with the addition of the ZYX logo on the back inserts and discs and the statement that they are made in Germany. ZYX must have acquired the license to re-release the GNP set. The booklets and liner notes are exactly the same in both sets (I already had the Land of the Giants disc from the original GNP run, so I compared it with the version in this new set).

However, the set I acquired from seller "MusicGarden" that was shipped from Germany had a line drawn with a black marker across the barcode on the back insert of every one of the discs in the set. I assumed that to mean it was either a promotional/advance copy or a "cut-out" (unsold stock that was returned to the manufacturer), but when I brought it to the seller's attention he replied promptly and stated the following:

"The Blacked Barcodes - this is another funny thing. I have spoken with producer.
It`s NOT promotional something - absolutely no. The CDs inside this box are also for selling as single CDs.
And they are afraid, that record dealers are buying the box and returned the single CDs (because this will be a better deal for the retailer).
That`s the reason the UPCs are black marked and no returning is possible (also a funny Idea - instead of using different artwork or something better than black inc)."

Whether or not this "barcode black-marking" practice is the case for all copies produced by ZYX or it's just a bunch of malarkey, I do not know. The seller did, however, apologize and issue a full refund (unsolicited, which was a kind gesture on his part) and then proceed to remove their listing from amazon, as it's no longer there. The set is still available from importCDs (based in the USA) for only $21, which is still a fantastic deal for this set, but whether or not the barcodes will be marked on those copies remains to be seen. Who wants the be next guinea pig? big grin

Now to dig into some of this awesome music...

Thank you Josh for the report.
hadn't seen it.

Well, this marker thing is unsettling for me.
Was the box sealed?
Also, would it be possible to provide a photo to see how is this marking?

I wonder if the set sold by Amazon has those markings too..

it seems the importcds set is even lower ($18.42) if you buy it from their site:
http://www.importcds.com/music/2584830/various-artists-fantasy-world-of-iallen

Although I don't know if the shipping is higher so it's basically the same...

edit:
Hmm..It seems ordering the importcd set from amazon is $35.95 in total for my country ($14,95 shipping)
While ordering from importcd site is $25,41 in total!

I can't understand why amazon imposes those high shipping rates to third party sellers.
There was the same problem with some Blurays (same sum for shipping), and the seller says amazon doesn't let him change it.

Are you saying you got the set for free?

The outer sleeve that holds the CDs was shrink-wrapped but the CDs were not individually sealed.

Here you can see how the barcodes are marked:

I've never seen the show (at least I don't think I have), but I'm listening to the CD now and it's great!

Definitely. And if that barcode mark is all there is to it, that set is a keeper... especially at the un-onerous price you paid for Josh wink

The Jerry Goldsmith score to Jonah and the Whale episode alone would justify its acquisition.

I used Wite-Out and a fine-point Sharpie to restore the barcodes to their original state, so all's right with the world again. The scanner app on my cell phone helped ensure that the lines were the correct width.

Just bought the box from importcds.
Will notify when I receive it, if I have any markings.
