He, he...I was pretty drunk tonight, and I think that was an advantage while watching this movie, since it's pretty crappy.

The infamous Golan-Globus team from Cannon Films produced this 80's movie that took every superficial ingredient from more high-brow teenage films of the era (such as FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH) and combined them into their own "cheeseball" mix. It's pure exploitation, of course...a whole bunch of nudity and 80's pop songs (of varying quality) displayed for their own sake. Screw the narrative! It's about teenagers at the brink of sexual awakening, and that's about it!

It also has what must be the most sudden and downbeat ending of all time! I just had to laugh! big grin

But the soundtrack is really fun. There is no original score, but a long list of classic 80's bands and songs that comment on the action through lyrics. The moody "Since You're Gone" by The Cars, for example, which pops up at regular intervals to underline the protagonist's lust for Karen. The Police, U2 and Devo are other New Wavers represented.

But the real reason for watching this was of course the appearance of Oingo Boingo's "Better Luck Next Time" played as party music (what else is news?) and also commenting on the action through the lyrics - it follows a failed attempt to woo the aforementioned Karen. Trivia: There is also an Oingo Boingo poster on the wall in the bathroom of that selfsame party!

Seems like a fun soundtrack to own, even though most of the songs are available elsewhere (except "Better Luck Next Time", which is only available here!). It's only out on LP, I believe.
