Another film I had to revisit due to my "Boingo at the Movies" fest. I haven't seen it in at least 15 years!

This 1984 outing is one of the greatest classics of 80's comedy, of course. Performances, comic timing and hilarious setpieces. I mean, drug-addicted donkeys, hookers and condom balloons....it doesn't get much better!

There are also some interesting filmatic details, like the cross-cut between a breasty statue at the hotel where the party is held to a breasty statue at the mansion where Hanks' girlfriend has a gift shower - a literal change-of-sex cut!

The soundtrack is also pretty nifty.

You have Robert Folk's score - which runs the gamut from funky synthpop (in the opening) to big band jazz to traditional orchestral flamboyance (love the spacey STAR WARS/source music for the in-film 3D cinema sequence!).

But there's also a whole bunch of cool songs. One favourite is Torch Song's incredibly funky "Prepare to Energize" (written by William Orbit) for the striptease-with-the-donkey scene. Another is Darlene Love's go-go song "Alley Oop". Unfortunately, the Orbit song is not on the soundtrack.

Then there's the Oingo Boingo stuff. There are no less than THREE Boingo songs here. There are "Who Do You Want To Be?" and "Something Isn't Right", played as stereo music at the very end of the party, when it has reached its climax and just before the cops show up. "Something Isn't Right" is in fact only available on this soundtrack. So is their third track, the title song "Bachelor Party" which is played over the end credits, a kinda ska-meets-rockabilly tune that would have made Huey Lewis proud!

Great fun.

I've always had a fondness for this '80s comedy and picked up the DVD the moment it was released. There are so many hilarious moments, but the first one that always come to mind is, umm, the hot dog joke. Loaded with great music throughout as many of the 80s comedies were.

So what's next, Thor? Zapped? Young Doctors in Love? Jekyll & Hyde Together Again? Class? Better Off Dead? One Crazy Summer? Summer School? Summer Rental? Student Bodies? Losin' It? Meatballs III? smile

The only thing I remember from Summer School was the gory phony massacre sequence, which was CLASSIC!!! I was amazed they got that one through the MPAA.

I'll have to revisit this movie some time...

You forgot to mention that
Oingo Boingo's "Who Do You Want To Be?"
is absent from the soundtrack album.

True, but it's available on several Boingo albums, like GOOD FOR YOUR SOUL.

Great, great movie. THE HANGOVER of its day!

Only difference is, BACHELOR PARTY is actually FUNNY... THE HANGOVER is merely smutty.

Big difference.

Yup,
As I too own this album primarily for that song.
(I also have with their FAREWELL Concert album)

but what about...
"Prepare to Energize" written by William Orbit
what album contains it?

BTW: Transforming this album into MP3 format now.

I'm not sure, but I think it was only released on an LP single.
