...aka SURF II: THE END OF A TRILOGY (and no, there was no SURF I!).

This is one of the weirdest, most hilariously bad films I've ever seen; it's like the surf movie version of Richard Elfman's FORBIDDEN ZONE. Definitely in Ed Wood territory.

There is an outlandish plot buried deep down somewhere - evil nerd Menlo (Eddie Deezen) seeks revenge on surfers (Eric Stoltz et.al.) by selling a bad batch of Buzz Cola that turns them into zombies! - but it's really more a long string of various random, crazy situations that seem to have been pasted in at the writer's whim (maybe at a booze-heavy afterparty?). It's got wiggling, naked boobs, people eating bird poo and a Sammy Davis Jr.-like principal called Daddy-O! big grin

It just has to be seen to be believed (or maybe not).

The score is by Peter Bernstein, and there ain't a lot of it, to be honest. I only remember a musical parody of "Chariots of Fire" during a brief frog race and a cloppety-clop Western theme for the two cops as they arrive on the beach by night.

The film has never been released on DVD, as far as I know, much due to rights issues of the soundtrack, boasting everything from The Beach Boys to Talk Talk and Thomas Dolby. It also seems like the filmmakers were huge Oingo Boingo fans, because it has no less than TWO Boingo songs used TWICE each! First is the surf-meets-ska song "Hold Me Back", used in a scene that has the teens opposing a surfing ban, the lyrics being an obvious comment on their rebellious nature. It's a hilarious montage of surfers and a showering girl! The second time is during the surfing contest towards the end. This song has in fact never been released outside this movie!

The other Boingo song is "Only a Lad" from the album with the same name, used first as a song for the crazy beach party (an ironical comment on the craziness of the "lads") and then later over the end credits.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever see a soundtrack. Or maybe even a DVD release.

I saw this film a few times when I was a teen 'cause it was on cable movie channels like every couple of hours or something. Eddie Deezen always amused me (especially in Spielberg's 1941). I don't really remember much from it.

I love Talk Talk! Which song is it? Probably one from their 1984 album It's My Life I guess?

It's actually their self-titled song "Talk Talk"!

OK, from their 1982 debut album The Party's Over then.
