Well, maybe with all the new Horner releases could be open the chance to finally be released this great score, the only missing in his 1993 prolific year (10 titles, all officially released in CD except HoC)
IMDB list these as the production companies:
- A&M Films - Penta Pictures
Don't know if any is related to a major film company to know if the music rights could be available.
I remember I really liked this score and have been asking for it since I saw the movie probably about a decade ago. Couldn't tell much about it except that the finale was especially touching and as far as I remember the film concluded with a fairly long piece of music.
I've never even heard of this movie (or have and since forgotten). What is the score like?
Thanks LeHah
Well, the film itself is a drama about a litttle girl who suffers autism because she can't stand her's father death, her mother and brother try to help with an expert in childhood autism. This sad story is perfect for Horner, creating a melodramatic score with some latinamerican sounds (because the accident happened in an archeological site in Mexico). A Horner fan can identify some styles he used in "Wher The River Runs Black", "Vibes" and "The Journey Of Natty Gann". The main motif is really beautiful.
Here you can take a look to some scenes, at 04:21 you can listen to the main theme of House Of Cards, lovely.
Here's another short clip with music (starts at 00:56):
I remember enjoying this music too, while watching the film (a bit of a TV movie, if I'm honest). It's in the style of Bobby Fischer and Jack the Bear, which he wrote around the same time... and yes Luis, I remember the Vibes quotes you mention. If released on CD, I would certainly add it to my Horner collection in a heartbeat.
Not too many Horner scores that need released, this is one of them and hopefully we'll see it sometime soon. In country and Testament and two big ones I want. I would say of the unreleased Horner stuff out there, In Country is my tops now, it used to be Journey and Something.

I complete agree my friend, In Country is another gem by Horner. I remember very well the final sequence in the film with the end credits, no dialogue and just music, a superb and beautiful suite.
If you can get through the ending of In Country, after watching the whole film, at the Vietnam wall without crying then you have no emotions, Horner's music, again, is perfect.
For anyone who's interested, there's a short excerpt (probably recorded from the DVD end credits) starting at about 2:00 in this Horner "tribute" on the 'Tube:
IN COUNTRY is probably my nr 1 wanted unreleased Horner's score now, followed by... well, House of Cards. There is still quite a few of his major works waiting to be released. Don't forget Wolfen, Deadly Blessing, Uncommon Valor, Testament or I love you to Death. Not to mention many his early television films, etc.
Well, since I made that "tribute" I can tell you that it came from the Suites and Themes bootleg.
That was my second guess. It's a very nice tribute, by the way; I enjoyed listening and it seems like it's the prefect video to link to for some good examples of Horner themes when they crop up in discussions.
Does anyone have an idea of how much music was written for the project? It seems like there aren't any real barriers to a release unless there just isn't enough music for an album (since Horner kept his tapes for Natty Gann, I'd say it's likely he has a copy even if the studio doesn't).
Not sure how much was actually written for In Country, but I have a Romanian bootleg from the 90's with about 1/2 hour of music from both Testament and In Country...they are quite beautiful, especially the last ten-minute cue from In Country...pure, vintage Horner. Testament is quite lovely as well...but in a much more reserved way...lots of lovely horn and cello solos.
I could be wrong, it's been a while sense I've seen the film, but I think there isn't a lot of music. I'm going on just my memory so I may be wrong, but I think this would be a shorter album 30 or so minutes.
As far as I remember there was a 10 minut piece used in the finale of House of Cards, so there should be enough music for the release. I think that the bootleg version of IN COUNTRY is fairly complete with only a few wild shakuhachi bits and pieces missing, that accompanied Bruce Willis character´s memories of war. I´d say there should be about 30-35 minutes in IN COUNTRY and probably about 10-15 minutes more in HOUSE OF CARDS.
I've heard this score previously, but was hiking in the woods today and gave it the fullest of my attention and I just love it. It just cracked my top 10 Horner scores...it's really amazing. There's something about this score, everything comes together just perfectly and not one track misses. Much gratitude for this release.

I can't wait to get In Country. Neat movie too, the ending of that film at the Wall and Horner's music brings me to tears every single time. I love hearing some love for Horner!! It warms my heart.
