Don't laugh! This is the kind of drivel I have to struggle my way through just because I've vowed to see as many films with Boingo songs in them as possible!

It's a 2004 flick in in the style of Disney's HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, with teenage girls having a sleepover, but then entering into various nocturnal "adventures" concerning boys, competitive girls, parties and what-not.

It actually wouldn't have been so bad if boys had been the protagonists - if nothing else, for personal nostalgia (it wasn't SO long ago that I was a teenager myself, after all!). But this is WAY too girly and WAY too American for me. But I got through it, much due to a funny role (albeit far too brief) by Steve Carell.

Deborah Lurie did the score, which for the most part sounds like Danny Elfman Lite. Fluffy stuff appropriate of the lightweight proceedings.

Song-wise, there's a whole bunch of typical American teen rock, you know very "grungey" with lots of fuzz guitar. Horrible.

The Oingo Boingo song in question this time is "We Close Our Eyes". It's used at a high school party, covered on-screen by the band Allister. The version is not too bad; updated for a more contemporary teenage audience.

I would be SERIOUSLY surprised if ANYONE here has seen this film (except maybe the Golden Age crowd...they love this stuff! wink).

P.S. It's worth noting that this is - to my knowledge - the last fiction film to feature a Boingo song in it. The only thing more recent is a 2005 episode of documentary TV series INDEPENDENT LENS, about the Enron ordeal. Talk about leap in subject matter! big grin

What, no comments on this yet?

Seriously, man, if LONELY ARE THE BRAVE is a famous film, this is an ALL-TIME CLASSIC! big grin
