A wonderful Mancini score. Now that would make a great pairing with his "Oklahoma Crude" lp on one cd. Yeah, I know it 's not possible since both lp's were on different labels; Pepper on MCA and Crude on RCA, but one can wish. Although......maybe each one could be done separately with the original film tracks on one cd and the lp recording on a second cd. I know that Crude was already issued on cd by RCA, but that in and of itself does not preclude a deluxe treatment in the future. We shall see.
What a fun little score. Love "Hollywood" , "Free as a Bird", "The Big Stunt" ( Which actually sounds like Jarre) Really thought this would make a great FSM Budget CD. Guess that's not going to happen.
I enjoy the movie, I didn't have the album, but I like the music. The album is now owned by UMG, it's a short one so could be part of a two-fer, that's if UMG would play ball. I was hoping Intrada would release it when they were releasing a lot of UMG albums, but even as part of a two-fer 3000 copies would be too much, maybe a 1000.

I've got the album on vinyl.
I love the opening sequence in the movie as Redford gets the kid to repeatedly replenish the fuel cans all day before taking him for a flight.
I also remember a gasp of shock from the audience at a scene involving Susan Sarandon.

Yes it's so effective, all of a sudden she's not there I'm sure these days they couldn't resist showing her lose her grip & falling...& hitting the ground. It's a shame the model of her on the wing looks so fake. I'd love a great looking Blu-ray of this film.
Give me everything that Henry ever did on film and I would enjoy it immensely.
Does anyone know if there will be any further Mancini releases this year? There are some fairly short scores from Universal's "Little Miss Marker" and "W.C. Fields and Me" that would make a nice combo disc. Also hoping for "the Great Race" and "Once Is Not Enough".
I know The Stuntman has been released already, but it might make a good paring with TGWP. There's also a nice military band vibe. Has Mancini done any war scores it could be pared with?

I think Mancini's only war-themed score was for "What Did You Do In The War, Daddy" and that was a comedy.
I bought the lp. I must have misremembered the score in the film because the ost is a crashing bore. Track after track of marching band tunes (Holy John Philip Sousa!) and boring pseudo- Hollywood period pieces.
It is certainly possible - given that this is a Mancini record- that the best music in the film was left off the lp We shall see brm
ps all-time great cover art! pss - excellent film!
TGWP was one of the more memorable evenings for me at the movie theatre. We got there just before curtain, it was pretty much sold out and we had to settle for front row, something I'd avoided at all costs previously. Turned out to be ideal for all the aerial shots with wonderful scoring. The ending--celestial in both viewing and context. I lost myself in its aura. Felt like a glorious cinematic bathing.
