Read the rave review on FSM ON LINE for this one and found out from SOUNDTRACK COLLECTOR that a CD-R is available of the score over at AMAZON. So I jumped in and sent for it. $10.99. Kind of curious as to what it'll look and sound like. Anyway, I like Hamlish, so we'll see . . .

Why are you buying cheap CD-R when there is a pressed CD available????

Hold up! This is also available from Silva as a pressed CD, for UK 9.99. Here's their link:

I've also e-mailed Screen Archives to see if they plan on getting the Silva CD. I haven't heard from them yet, but they may be restricted by import laws from selling it in the U.S. if Amazon is selling the CD-R. All speculation on my part, but I'm hoping Screen Archives will get it. If not, I may order it directly from Silva.

Looks to me like the Silva cd is the same as Amazon's. Huh?

I'd like to thank Steven Kennedy for sending me out on a wild goose chase. One bright spot is I'll be getting the CD R next week and if it sucks (the CD R, not the music) I'll just order the pressed one from SAE.

I think you'll really enjoy the music. It's a lot of fun! I didn't bother with the CD-R, mainly because I was too lazy to wait for it. LOL But I've been thoroughly enjoying Hamlisch's score.

Why is it that I suspect the person who chose the title THE INFORMANT! is the same genius who crafted the memorable title to the 1937 Hugh Herbert/Allen Jenkins comdy, SH! THE OCTOPUS?

Got the CD in the mail from Amazon yesterday and it looks and feels just like a regular CD with all the regular packaging and such. It wasn't such a bad buy after all. And the score is really good, not great, just really good. I'm glad to see that Mr. Hamlisch hasn't lost his chops.

Knowing your taste a little bit Eugene I think you'll really enjoy this one. It has some schmalz of course but there is also a Hefti/Odd Couple style on some of the tracks. I definitely plan to review this one. I've not seen the movie yet but I will go.

From what I understand from Ed at Screen Archives and from Silva themselves, the Silva version is a pressed CD. Edo, are you out there? Can you confirm?

Saw the film last night. It's really a lot of fun. Takes a while to sort of establish it's tone but once it does it's quite amusing. I'm not a Hamlisch fan - outside of his dazzling work on 'The Swimmer' and 'Sophie's Choice' - but this score is a riot. It's all brass and twangy-Bondian electric guitar. It could have been a score for a Matt Helm movie with Al Caiola. Real retro swinging spy music. At first I thought the song at the end 'Trust Me' was some vintage swinging 60's piece but was pleasantly surprised to discover it's a new original by Hamlisch and the Bergman's. A very cool song.

My promo/review copy is from New Line Records so I'm confused.

What he said. Saw it last night, and the score is very retro, light, and engaging.

I second...or...third...that too. Once the movie finds it's footing it's a heck of a lot of fun. And the score is , umm, zany . Great stuff and it'll be one to pick up . The score mainly shows up in montages and transitions, and although it's loud and in your face, it works to carry the tone of the movie. Good stuff !
