The track, THE TREES is by far one of Jerry's BEST cues. THIS is the kind of film music I love, just soaring and beautiful. Melodies you just get swept away with.
"The Trees" -- definitely one of the top 5 most beautiful cues Jerry ever wrote -- and that's saying a lot. This entire score was one of my first Goldsmith CD's, probably my first non-action Goldsmith score I ever owned, and it remains one of my favorites to this day.
I've always loved this score, but I must say that soaring theme, most identifiable in "The Trees" and "Campbell and the Children" is VERY John Barry. I didn't realize until resurrecting this thread that Barry was the original composer on this score. I can't imagine Jerry "aping" Barry on purpose, unless McTiernan or the studio specifically requested it. But for me this score will always be JERRY DOES BARRY. Not necessarily a bad thing, but the thematic similarity here is striking.
