Not out of print, but out of stock.

This has been happening to each of the Complete Recordings from time to time...apparently, some ass-head at the plant still hasn't figured out how popular they are. They'll be available for the usual price before too long.

Back-up information from Doug Adams:

Q: I can't find some of The Complete Recordings sets at the moment. Have they been discontinued?

A: No. The demand for these sets has continually surpassed expectations. From time to time, supplies run out. It's frustrating to all of us, I assure you. When supplies deplete, Amazon will inaccurately list the set as "discontinued." Secondary market dealers will often charge exorbitant fees for The Complete Recordings when Amazon posts this listing. I strongly advise potential buyers to exercise patience and avoid these unscrupulous sellers.

Hope that clears this up! smile (Or is it: Hope this clears that up?)

CK

I knew I'd find you hear mister! Glad you didn't get eat up by the bugs or any boiling vats of magma in Canada!

This is a collection I would love to edit down into two hour suites for each film. But it would be a daunting task, and I haven't felt inclined to tackle this yet.

Meanwhile I am very curious about this upcoming release:

I am a big fan of the complete scores to each film. With any luck the new Hobbit films will get a similar treatment.

Its going to be awesome. I have attended 3 different LOTR symphony performances over the years, and it really is outstanding. As stated in other threads, it is more or less a greatest hits type arrangement, but its really well done. A German radio station ran the full symphony this morning (the upcoming CD version), and it was very good. I think it might satisfy your suite desires.

Wonderful! Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm really looking forward to this.

My attempt at overviewing the entire 3 scores in one hour - using a theme-by-theme approach and combining the different uses in the three films. I obviously had to leave a lot out, but the main material is all represented.

Feedback much appreciated.

Just treated myself to a new fancy-pants DAC (digital to analogue converter) to hear my soundtracks at their best; the Audiolab M-DAC:

http://www.audiolab.co.uk/M-DAC%20Series.aspx?lang=En

I've ripped the high-resolution stereo versions of the Complete Lord of the Rings recordings from each of my discs as WAV files so I can import them into my music server (You can do his with a program called 'DVD-A Explorer').

Now these high-res versions are meant to be mastered at 24-bit/48kHz. And indeed if you right-click on any of the files and look at the 'Properties' they all say 24/48.

Now the Audiolab MDAC has a nifty feature which displays the TRUE bitrate of a file being played. I was somewhat surprised to find out that 'The Two Towers' is in fact 22-bit/48kHz. Fellowship and Return are both 24-Bit/48kHz as advertised.

There was/is obviously a mastering error with the entire High-Res stereo version of The Two Towers. It still sounds great, but is not mastered at the bit-rate advertised (despite what a simple glance at File/Properties might indicate), and is a lower bit-rate than the other two.

I'm wondering who I should email to mention this and possibly get it corrected for future pressings?

Cheers,

- John

I've made 80 minute versions for each of the 3 complete recording soundtracks. Also made an 80 minute version from all three onto one disc. I used an editing software called Goldwave. and burned them to cd using itunes with no gaps.

For the first time since getting the three box sets I managed to listen to all ten hours or so in detail over the last week. What fantastic music this is?

However, the biggest problem is I need another 10 hours to revisit!!!

I have tried a few times to put one 80 minute disc together of highlights from the single albums and the complete recordings but have never quite got it right.

Has anyone got any ideas? I appreciate it is a matter of taste!

I feel your pain. I did the same thing. Played the entire box set once and it sat on my shelf for years. I am finally making my own fan edits. Each track was loaded into WavePad and edited down. Mostly the parts that kind of meandered or were just loud booming noise. I made tons of new cross-fades to stitch things together. I see no way of making a short playlist without editing the tracks down. That of course is personal preference.

Just finished FOTR (approx total time 1:53:00) and TTT (approx total time 1:56:00). I didn't care for the climatic music on the TTT box set. So I used the cues from the single CD as a replacement. I couldn't get them down to a single disc run time without leaving out a lot of music I liked. But they are far more enjoyable to me and I can listen to them in one sitting now.

Does anyone know if these (especially FOTR) are out of print??

I have TTT and ROTK, but have yet to get Fellowship. I almost bought one in those crazy days when it was over a hundred dollars, but thankfully, someone found out that they were simply 'out of stock' at that time (as mentioned in this thread). I'm wonder if its happening again... Amazon has not had it in stock for a while and the prices are beginning to creep back up again. I should have bought one once Amazon got them in again (for around $50), but I figured I could still wait. Maybe I waited too long.

I've waited and waited for the TTT to come down in price on Amazon, but i really think these editions may be going out of print permanently. They haven't been back in stock for a long time. I have ROTK and FOTR but it sucks to have to pay the high asking prices for these sets and they just keep going up. I really thought that the label would have re-released these when the Hobbit came out...

Every once-in-a-while, I check back again to see if there's been any decrease in price... it's been years since I heard they weren't OOP but were simply OOS, but it seems quite clear that these will not be coming back into stock (or obviously print) for a while yet. Perhaps at some anniversary, they will be made available again.
