I thought when I saw and recorded this film, the music was fairly sparse, Mildcigar. The most obvious track from the film is the end piece, which starts with the lone choir voice as they're driving along in the jeep singing about the "Mercenary calling" and then segues into the very long but excellent end title. From memory, if there is much else, the rest of it is buried among the Special effects and explosions.
I think your correct, a bit like "Day of the Jackal", I can't remember alot of music in that film also.
But still, for collection purposes, worth a look. If that track exists then the others must exist as well (hopefully).

I have the Burgon promo too, which I got mainly for the DOGS OF WAR material. Unfortunately it is a disappointing selection, which leaves off some of the best music. You won't find the brief but powerful Main Title which accompanies the desperate takeoff of the plane, or the music associated with Walken's girlfriend Jobeth Williams ("Drive To Jessie's") and even the end title is an alternate mix that doesn't quite preserve the power of the film version. Towards the end of the film's closing titles there is a sudden and very stirring burst of orchestra - on the promo this is replaced with another verse of chorus. Interesting, certainly, but a tad of a let down when one is expecting to hear the version from the film.

I'd love to see this one released also. The music is so sparse in the film, which makes you wonder if there's more music recorded but not used. Prime example is All The President's Men, no one knew that David Shire recorded 30 min of music with only a small portion of it ending up in the final film. Hopefully this is the case with Dogs of War. What a fun movie that is.

I avoided this film for quite some time afraid that it'd be a unimaginative action movie, but it happily is a more substantial adventure tale. Walken is an offbeat, but mesmerizing, leading action anti-hero. Burgon's score is a surprise standout - the end title cue with vocals by Gillian McPherson is particularly outstanding - and it didn't come across as "sparse" to me.
EDIT: I see that La La Land released an hour long CD of this score in 2015, but a thread for that release doesn't appear in "search." If there was one, could someone please link to it? Thanks!
