I'm feeling a bit let down right now. The first trailer was full of mysterious vistas and little plot, and now that the plot has been revealed, it feels a tad generic. I'm still hopeful though, because it looks like it has some beautiful moments.

Indeed. I feel like I've seen the movie just now watching that trailer.

Any Horner music in this new trailer?

Just watched it, looks interesting. They still don't have gravity down very good. One thing abut CGI, when someone falls, they ALWAYS fall faster toward the ground and for the eye, my eye, I can tell, oops not real at all. I hope they can fix that someday!

I wasn't incredibly impressed by the first trailer, and this one does little for me as well. To me, it really just looks any other typical big-budget CGI extravaganza. Nothing against those personally, but from the visuals seen in the trailers and knowing what the basic plot is (man meets natives, man learns from natives, man sides with natives against his own; same old, same old), I don't see what's supposed to set it apart from all the rest. If anything, I'm much more interested in hearing James Horner's score than I am seeing the film. I probably won't bother with this in the theater, but I might rent it on DVD.

I think folks are setting up unrealistic expectations for this trailer. The "revolutionary" aspect of this film isn't in the story, it's in the presentation. The 3-D IMAX version is supposed to be a uniquely immersive experience, and that isn't going to come through on your desktop computer screen. Online, the world of Pandora and its inhabitants may seem familiar, but in the theater you should end up feeling like you are there. (Of course, we'll have to wait until December to see if it lives up to that promise.)

I think it looks just like I'd expect a James Cameron sci-fi movie to look. And that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Problem is that many aren't going to see the film in an IMAX theatre, nor in 3D. The only IMAX theatre we had in Oslo was demolished a few years ago. So the question is how well it comes through on regular 2D cinema screens, even though the equipment is top-notch.

The scale of the movie looks amazingly and truly epic, but the storyline seems like a sci-fi version of AT PLAY IN THE FIELDS OF THE LORD, crossed with DANCES WITH WOLVES.

I think people are forgetting how clunky a writer Cameron is.
No argument about his envelope pushing re film techniques and innovations, but like that other 'innovator' George Lucas, if he got some help from better writers, their films would be so much stronger for it.
It still looks to me like a big cross between Jar Jar's Jungle Adventure, the Revenge of the Sith battle scenes and Apocalypto.
After that trailer, I wonder what's left to discover during the film.
Here's hoping Horner makes it an audio pleasure, like he did on The New World.

I can't believe how generic and lame this is.

So far, it interests me neither on the story nor on the visual level; not one bit.

And no, I don't believe the presentation will make all the difference.

Actually, I don't think so at all. I believe he has written some extremely effective scripts that work on multiple levels, with very interesting and lasting aspects well embedded in the immediate entertainment.

James Cameron's new film "Avatar" may have one of the biggest budgets of all time ... but it also has one big problem -- a group of Hindus are up in arms because they claim the title disgraces their religion. The Universal Society of Hinduism and its president Rajan Zed are demanding Cameron put a disclaimer before and after the new 3-D flick saying it has diddly squat to do with the Hindu religion and its concepts ... and the title is just a coincidence.

The concept of "avatar" -- commonly known as incarnation -- is a central theme in Hinduism and prominent Hindus are worried the movie will completely botch it if Cameron doesn't bother to explain himself.

Ironically Cameron's film will reportedly be the biggest ever Hollywood release in India.

Um. Cameron doesn't need to explain himself. Avatar may be a religious concept, but it's also a widely-used word in the common vernacular and used in all sorts of secular ways, and its use here will be immediately obvious to this movie's target demographic.

I thought I was the only one. It doesn't look that engaging.

Well I'm not looking for a life chaning experience with this film, just an enjoyable night out at the pictures.

As far as I'm concerned, I can find enough of those from lesser directors. But from Jim Cameron, after twelve years, I expect a little more (and besides, his own announcements have set the bar exceptionally high).
