Dear Guys:

I went on trip to Colorado Springs, CO a month ago, and I foolishly took my Airwolf soundtrack that was produced in Europe almost 10 years ago. I believe there were only about 500 made, and they were sold out years ago, and made by the Airwolf Appreciation Society.

When I went on the trip, it was storming and it was on the top of one of my bags, and must have slipped out when the wind was blowing when one of the bags fell out.

It was my most favorite soundtrack (Gabrielle's theme and Echoes of Yesterday were two of my most beloved tunes)

I was able to download the the main three themes from the Airwolf Appreciation Society on the internet, but it's not the same as having the actual CD in my hands, with the linear notes and beautiful illustrations.

Comfort me, Comfort me, oh ye people!

Or are you fellow fans too smart to make a mistake that foolish?

Thankfully, I've now transferred all my CD's to the iPod (all 1000 of them too....took me bloody three weeks!), so there's no chance of losing beloved CD's anymore. I sympathize with your situation, bro!

I'd take the Stringfellow Hawke approach and address the matters of the spirit instead of the material world. You've enjoyed the CD for a decade, probably have it memorized, so remember the good times you had. Now go out to your isolated cabin and scrape away on your cello. If that doesn't work, try punching out Archangel.

A painful lesson learned. Transfer your cd's to some other portable media such as Ipods, minidiscs, cd-r's, casettes (if anyone still uses
these) if you have the hardware and if it is affordable for you to do so.
You can then leave your original cd's at home, and take the copies with you when you go out. If this is not feasable, then there is only one other alternative; don't go anywhere.

Not until you have to reformat your iPod wink

But seriously, I hope you've got all that backed up.

Wow JThree, that must be an awful feeling!

The only things I can suggest are 1.) check e-bay from time to time. You never know if a deal might show up or an auction. 2.) Try the trading board. Somebody might want to trade one valuable CD for another ... you never know! 3.) Somebody around here might be willing to send you a copy CD-R. I know it's not the same but still...

Hope this helps!

But all that music is also on your computer. Restoring it to a new or reformatted iPod is as simple as putting the iPod on the connector.

Besides, I think Thor kept his CDs. So if he lost his computer and iPod the same day, he'd still have the back-up of the CDs.

So how'd you like Colorado Springs?

Did you get to see the Air Force Academy?

Is that why you brought the "Airwolf" CD . . . for underscoring?

Colorado Springs was ok. I really didn't get a chance to get out the Air Force Academy, I was more interested in tracking down comic book stores trying to find comic books and comic book art I might be interested in.

Still not used to it taking 30 --40 minutes to drive to the opposite side of town.

Oh, my precious Airwolf soundtrack.

My precious. . . . . My precious . . . .

Maybe, but not necessarily. He might for various reasons 1) not keep all of it on his hard drive when he's done with the file transfer (I have nearly 30 gigs of music on my iPod and don't keep all of it on my harddrive), or 2) even if it's on the harddrive, the harddrive could crash as well. That's why I'm saying - back that sucker up.

True. Although that can take a lot of time. That's why I'm saying - back that sucker up.

Fortunately, I have a 120 GB ipod, so it can room ALL my 1000 CD's and still be only half full! It works wonderfully as an extra backup disc that way.

A family friend of ours has owned a CD shop for many many years, and when my brother and I were little he would give us free promos he would get. We built up a collection of hundreds of soundtracks, and kept them all in one of those CD booklets. We took it with us on a trip to Europe, and accidentally left it on the plane at a stopover in Switzerland.

These stories are making me want to never leave my house with a CD! However, as was suggested - if I want to take music with me, I usually make a copy.

I love my iPod, but I've found that while you can put music on and delete it from the iPod, you cannot transfer music from the iPod back to a computer. It's an anti-piracy feature to keep you from proliferating songs among all your friends.

So I do not consider the iPod itself to be a backup; when the iPod dies, it will take its contents to the grave. I use external hard drives to back up my digital valuables.

Good Lord, what a sob story! A most unfortunate event!! (sniff sniff...wiping a tear away...)

If I send you a CDR copy and color copies of the inserts, can you again somehow find a reason to go on living?
smile

(...now WHERE did I put that copy of AIRWOLF......)

Kidding aside...I must have it somewhere here and will be glad to replace the music/inserts if you would like. I just have to make sure I can locate the actual CD in a reasonable timeframe. I haven't actually seen it for a good many years since I first played it.

Or are you, like me, an ORIGINALIST, and only the very original will do, in the most perfect of worlds. But then...nothing is perfect. So we all do the best that we can.

I'm ready to help. Give me the word and I'll start digging in the archives.

Granted, losing your original Airwolf disc is a big deal, but you can still get the music from Mark Cairns. The original Airwolf Themes CDs have been remastered and are available as downloads.

Check out Cairns Airwolf Themes promo video.

I'm emotionally devasted. And here I was using my vacation time to treat my parents on the trip. Oh, Life can be so cruel, heartless, and unforgiving.

That would be appreciated Ron. . . . I really it's hardly as bad as what (I believe) comic writer Len Wein went through, when he lost all of his comic art in a fire . . . but still for a shallow comic book fan it can be pretty traumatic.

JThree . . .please feel free to give me an email at carolyn@dia.net. Or should I email you.
