Thanks musicmad. It aint just me thats seen it then? I liked both film and music, although the film was, from memory, a doppelganger spy thing where you werent sure if good Yul had beaten bad Yul, so probably a little silly plot - but I loved the themes. Very infectious. The main title theme is especially good and I recall quite a prominent score throughout the film, especially the ski chase sequences. It may be fairly monothematic in that the main title reprises a few times in various guises I think - but I couldnt get enough of it. The film was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner who has a top pedigree. I know there's DVD out but do I take it that it hasnt been released on CD?

I saw the film on it's initial release and remember thinking that it was an ok little Spy thriller, at a time when they were certainly very plentiful! To the best of my knowledge there has never been a soundtrack release. P.S. Just looking at Ernie Freeman's filmography and I see that he also scored a likable James Garner movie called The Pink Jungle which also starred a lovely looking German actress Eva Renzi, who tragically died young, what a pity, I thought she was very good in Funeral In Berlin. Anyway, her birthday is tomorrow 3rd November which coincidentally also happens to be John Barry's...and mine!!!

Ernie Freeman's Double Man was magnificent, a guilty pleasure if you will. I group it with Harry Sukman's Naked Runner and Richard LaSalle's The Time Travellers. All different styles, but all deserving of a CD release. Will any of them ever see one... who can tell. I waited over 20 years for Goldsmith's Tora Tora Tora, so fingers crossed. The Naked Runner was actually highly rated, but still no CD. If I could add a fourth score, then it would be The Desperados by David Whitaker with a beautiful main theme.
